Inauguration of “RAMAIAH SAT” Ground Control Station

Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences celebrated National Technology Day with the theme School to Startups-Igniting Young Minds to Innovate” at Ramaiah Technology Campus (RTC), Peenya, Bangalore on Wednesday 7th June 2023.

The celebrations started with talks on quantum computing by Dr. Girish Chandra from TCS. The event was graced by Dr. M. R. Jayaram, Chancellor of RUAS and Dr. A. Sivathanu Pillai. Further, the RAMAIAH SAT ground control station was inaugurated by the chancellor with an august gathering of several dignitaries. RUAS plans to build student satellite called Ramaiah Sat” coinciding with Azadi Ki Amrit Mahotsav, the 75 years of Indian Independence. The satellite ground control station is capable of receiving data in UHF, VHF as well as S band frequencies. A live link of the NOAA satellite tracking and downlink capability of the ground station was demonstrated during the inauguration ceremony. Further, the data is used for weather estimation, forest fire detection, vegetation as well as tomography. The RAMAIAH SAT ground station has the capability to receive and process the downlink data from NOAA series satellite namely 15, 18 and 19. The downlink data can be processed for weather prediction, tomography, water resource management and forest fires. Further, with some processing vegetation index can also be found. These data can be used to support farmers for sowing of crops, reduce the damage caused due to forest fires as well as manage the water shortage in the country. The ambition is to provide an improved prediction model for the downlink data provided by the satellite. Further, launch a satellite with IoT payload and have an satellite cluster that can provide accurate polarimetric data for the country.

Later, in the presidential address by Dr. Jayaram emphasized on the requirement close interaction with industry and academia for the development of various products catering to mankind.

Professor Kuldeep. K. Raina, Vice Chancellor, Chief Executive Shri M. R. Sreenivasa Murthy and host of other academicians and officials graced the occasion.
