Dear Students,
The Gokula Education Foundation, established in 1980 by the visionary Late Sri M S Ramaiah, has been working tirelessly to bring life to its founder’s core philosophy: to deliver education and healthcare for the betterment of mankind. The vision of one man led to the creation of 25 institutions that have changed thousands of lives, uplifted countless communities and contributed tirelessly to nation-building over the years.
In 2013, fueled by the same passion and dedication to transformative education, the M S Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (RUAS) came into existence. RUAS aspires to draw inspiration from India's rich educational heritage while adapting its learnings to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving future.
In the context of the current educational landscape, where many Asian countries, including India, were once renowned as islands of educational excellence, RUAS recognizes the need for a more comprehensive, contemporary, and agile approach to education. This is because the prevalent sea of Western-dominated education is making many countries islands of mediocrity.
Addressing this challenge involves not only reimagining education but also reflecting on its societal role. While employment is undoubtedly a significant outcome of education, it should not be the sole purpose. Historical universities like Takshila and Nalanda, dating back to the 5th and 6th centuries, serve as models. They were centres for intellectual pursuits, cross-cultural exchange of ideas, and contributors to social emancipation. Even as they lauded freedom of thinking, they also emphasized the responsibility of scholars towards the society they lived in and universities, therefore, were inextricably linked. They each drew from the other and functioned to better one another.
RUAS aims to revive these principles, viewing education to bridge knowledge gaps in society, build on existing demographic dividends, promote sustainable development, and solidify India's position in the world. Drawing inspiration from modern Indian thinkers like Sri Aurobindo and Sri Radhakrishna, RUAS believes in an education that encourages self-discovery and balanced growth, nurturing intellect, grace and compassion.
Under the guiding philosophy of these profound principles, RUAS envisions education as a transformative journey with the aim of exploring the soul and the mind. This journey imparts unchanging values that define individuals in the ever-changing and complex realities of the modern world, ultimately contributing to the upliftment of society.
