Workshop on Topology Optimization
Workshop on Topology Optimization was jointly organized by the Department of Aerospace and Automotive Engineering, M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, and the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, on 26th of October 2024 at Ramaiah Technology Campus, Bengaluru. Topology Optimization is a computational method that strategically distributes material within a defined design space, aiming to maximize performance while minimizing weight and material usage. This technique plays a critical role in fields such as aerospace, automotive, civil, and mechanical engineering, where achieving efficiency and fostering innovation are essential.
Prof. G. K. Ananthasuresh, IISc, gave a talk on Introduction to Topology Optimization, followed by a hands-on session. Prof. M. Sivapragasam, MSRUAS, spoke on Shape Optimization in Aerodynamics concluding the morning session. Dr. Prabhat Kumar, IIT-Hyderabad, gave a talk on Design Parameterization, Filters and Design-Dependent Loads in Topology Optimization, followed by a second hands-on session. The workshop concluded with a talk by Dr. Souvick Chatterjee, MathWorks, who provided insights from an industrial perspective and opportunities provided by MATLAB in optimization
Overall, it was a productive workshop with the participants gaining insights into Topology Optimization and its engineering applications
