Industrial Visit to IKEA Nagasandra, Bangalore
The Department of Fashion Design organized an industrial visit to IKEA on 24 March 2026. A total of 7 students participated in this enriching visit. The visit offered valuable insights into fabric selection, material quality, and visual merchandising. Students observed a diverse range of textiles — including cotton, linen, polyester blends, and velvet — used across curtains, bed linens, cushions, and upholstery. IKEA's thoughtfully arranged room settings demonstrated how texture, weight, and finish influence both aesthetics and functionality, providing students with a practical understanding of how fabric choices align with consumer lifestyle needs.
Students gained a comprehensive, real-world understanding of how textiles are selected, presented, and marketed in a retail context. Observations around sustainability, material quality, and visual merchandising will meaningfully inform students' academic and design projects going forward.
The visit also provided students with a global perspective on retail design standards and inspired them to think critically about how design choices impact the user experience in both commercial and residential spaces.
