RUAS Hosts 13th Kannada Vijanana Sammelana at Peenya Campus

The 13th Kannada Vijnana Sammelana (KVS) organized by Swadeshi Vijnana Andolana – Karnataka (SVAK) was hosted at Peenya Campus of RUAS. The Welcome address was delivered by Prof. E.T. Puttaiah, President - SVAK, Vice Chairman - 13th KVS and Former Vice Chancellor of Gulbarga University. The Introductory remark was conveyed by Capt. Ganesh Karnik, MLC, Chief Whip Officer Opposition Party, GoK and Working President - SVAK. This was followed by the Inaugural address by Shri. Uday Shankar Puranik, Senior Executive, Global Business Division, IBM and Member - Atal Incubation of NITI Ayog, New Delhi. Later, release of the Souvenir and Presidential Address was delivered by Prof. S.R. Shankapal, The Vice Chancellor, RUAS.

This was followed by the felicitation ceremony to honour the achievements of Dr. B.M. Hegde, Former Vice Chancellor, Manipal University, Manipal and Prof. Sandhya S. Visveswaraiah, Professor, IISc, Bengaluru who were the recipients of Visveswaraiah Vijnana Puraskara Awards of SVAK. Subsequently, Dr. K. Varadarangan was felicitated with Bhimsen Joshi Samskruthi Vijnana Puraskara Award of SVAK. Finally, vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Niranjana Prabhu, Academic Registrar – Faculty of Science and Humanities, RUAS and Vice President - SVAK. After the Inauguration, more than 80 research papers were presented in Kannada during the Conference. Faculty members and research Scholars across Karnataka actively participated in the Sammelana.

Fresher’s Day 2017

Fresher’s Day for the 2017 undergraduate batch was celebrated on Saturday 9 September 2017 in Gnanagangothri campus. Mr. Manjunath Nayak, Director-Student Affairs welcomed the gathering. Shri H. R. Ranganath, Chairman & Managing Director, Writemen Media Pvt. Ltd was the Chief Guest. During his address to the students, he asked them to sincerely and passionately pursue their dreams without losing focus and concentration.

After the formal inauguration came to an end, students presented cultural programmes like dancing, singing, playing instrument. The students thoroughly enjoyed the programmes. A competition to select Mr and Miss Fresher was held. The winners were selected based on the talent exhibited and response to question asked by the judges. Mr. Bijesh S. from BHM and Ms. Mili Bhimani from B.Tech.(Mech) were the winners.

Rally for Rivers

Students of RUAS participated enthusiastically in the Rally for Rivers, a campaign organized by Isha Foundation to raise awareness about our rivers getting depleted. The campaign was led Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, an Indian yogi, mystic, poet and New York Times bestselling author and the Founder of Isha Foundation – a not for profit organization which offers yoga programs around the world on 9 September 2017 in Palace Grounds, Bangalore.

Inauguration of B.Voc. Programme of Batch-3

The inaugural programme of the 3rd batch of B.Voc programme was successfully held at RUAS Peenya campus on 8th September 2017. Mr. Reguraj N., Managing Director-NTTF inaugurated the programme and deliver the inaugural address. Dr. S. R. Shankapal, Vice Chancellor, RUAS briefed about the B.Voc progamme. Mr. Venugopal, Director and Mrs. Kalpana, Principal from NTTF, Pro Vice chancellors, Registrars, Directors, Course Managers, Faculty members, Staff members, B.Voc Students and Parents were gracing the programme.
We are happy to announce that this year, we've started our part time B.Voc degree in Product Design & Modelling and have more than 100 students who've joined for the B.Voc programme.

Pharmacological Modelling and Simulation Centre (PMSC) organised a One-Day Seminar on ‘Basics of Drug Design and Molecular Modelling’ at Faculty of Pharmacy. The seminar was inaugurated by Prof. Govind R. Kadambi, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research), Mr. Arup Bhattacharya, Chief Manager - Human Resource and Dr. K. M. Sharath Kumar, Deputy Director-Sponsored Research. Around 120 delegates from various colleges attended the Seminar.

Dr. Chadaram Sivaji, Scientist- F and Director - International Bilateral Cooperation Division, Department of Science and Technology (DST) delivered a guest lecture on “Roles of DST in Promoting Science & Technology Avenues and Opportunities to Researchers”. Dr. H.K. Narahari, Dean - FET, RUAS delivered the Welcome Address and Dr. S. Srikari, Associate Dean - Research introduced the Guest to the audience. Dr. Chadaram Sivaji in his lecture discussed about the importance of Science & Technology policies in India, the complex role in promoting scientific research, Inter- Ministerial Co-operation and new DST Programmes. Faculty members of our University including Deans, Registrars, Associate Deans and students from various Faculties actively participated in the guest lecture. MoU with Association of Liberian Universities at Monrovia, Liberia

RUAS signed a MoU with Association of Liberian Universities (ALU) in association with Ghana Technology University College (GTUC) at Monrovia, Liberia. ALU collaborates with Institutions of Higher Education to build a better future for the next generation of learners at Liberia. Prof. S.R. Shankapal, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of RUAS, Dr. Joseph Isaac, President – ALU and Dr. Osei K. Darkwa, President – GTUC signed the MoU along with presence of ALU members which include Presidents of various Liberian Universities and Colleges. In particular, the MoU aims at initiating interaction and cooperation between Institutions in the areas of Education and Research between Students, Faculty Members, Administrators and Research Centres. Further, Prof. S.R. Shankapal presented an overview and best practices of our University which was well received by the Liberian Educationists. Lastly, Dr. Osei K. Darkwa gave a guest lecture on ‘Contemporary Trends in Trans-National Education: Opportunities Beyond Borders’.

A Two-Day National Conference on Advances in Materials Research Organized by Department of Chemistry, FSH, RUAS

A Two-Day National Conference on Advances in Materials Research (NCAMR-2017) was organized by Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Humanities (FSH), Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (RUAS), Bangalore. During the inauguration of the Conference, Prof. M. R. Srinivasan, Dean – FSH, RUAS, welcomed the speakers and delegates. Dr. T. Niranjana Prabhu, Head – Department of Chemistry and Academic Registrar – FSH, RUAS gave an overview about the Conference. The conference began with inaugural address by Prof. Govind R. Kadambi, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research), RUAS who emphasized on the importance of materials research. The key note address was delivered by Shri Hemant Kumar Shukla, Head and Principal Scientist, NAL, Bangalore on ‘Carbon Fiber and its Manufacturing Technology’. Shri R. G. Revaiah, Scientist ‘F’ DEBEL, DRDO, Bengaluru released the compendium of the Conference and delivered a talk on ‘Soldier Preparedness in Harsh Military Environment’.

On the second day of Conference, two plenary talks were delivered. Dr. Arun M. Isloor, Associate Professor NITK, Surathkal gave a talk on ‘New Generation Polymer Membrane: A Solution for Water Crises!’. Moving forward, Dr. S. Krishna Prasad, Scientist G, Center for Soft Matter and Nano Sciences (CeNS)) delivered a talk on ‘Influence of Imposed Meso/Nano-networks on Anisotropic Soft Matter’. More than 100 participants which include 60 research scholars presented their papers during the Conference. Finally, a Panel discussion on “Challenges in Technology Transfer from Laboratory to Industries” was conducted by Dr. Arun M. Isloor, Dr. Krishna Prasad and Dr. S. Srikari, Professor – FET, RUAS. The discussion was moderated by Dr. H.K. Narahari, Dean – FET, RUAS. Lastly, Ms. Haripriya, Final Year Student of M.Sc. Chemistry gave a summary of the Conference and Vote of Thanks to all who have directly or indirectly helped in the success of the NCAMR-2017.

Induction Programme for New Recruits at MSRUAS

One day induction programme was conducted on 3rd August 2017 for all new recruits of the University. The programme was conducted at Peenya campus from 10:30 am till 5:30 pm and was divided into five sessions. The session speakers were Prof. S. R. Shankapal, Vice chancellor, RUAS, Dr. Pushpanjali K., Academic Registrar, RUAS and Mr. Arup Bhattacharya, Chief HR, RUAS.

The induction programme was aimed at achieving the following objectives:
1. To give an overview of the University, it's structure and its activities.
2. To familiarize on the academic processes and pedagogy of the University.
3. To familiarize on the evaluation and assessment methods in the University.
4. To familiarize on the various HR policies of the University.
The University extends a warm welcome to all the new recruits.

Prof. Pushpalatha Murthy, Assoc. Provost and Dean of the Graduate School, Michigan Tech, USA visited RUAS. Our Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. S.R. Shankapal, along with Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research), Registrars and Dean - Faculty of Engineering and Technology briefed about the University and gave an insight about the best practices adopted at RUAS. Prof. Pushpalatha Murthy visited Peenya Campus to get an overview of laboratory facilities at our University. Later, Prof. Pushpalatha Murthy met Dr. M.R. Jayaram, The Hon’ble Chancellor of RUAS, Chief Executives of GEF Trust and Heads of other Sister Institutions to discuss about the possibility of student exchange and short term visits with MTU.

RUAS Wins the International Best Lab Award

RUAS received BEST PACE LAB-2017 International Award. The award showcases the standard of our design laboratory when compared to any International Design Institute across the globe. This award was given in the Annual PACE Forum 2017 held at Toluco, Mexico. Around 50+ institution and universities were participated in this global competition, finally RUAS won the award. This award was received at Mexico by RUAS representatives Prof. Ashok C. Meti - Professor and Academic Registrar, FET and Mr. V. R. Kiran - Assistant Professor, AAE, FET.

RUAS Students Won the First Place for Their Urban Vehicle Concept

RUAS team of M.Tech APD students Mr. Sachin V, Mr. Manoj R. Kulkarni and Mr. Prashant M. won the First Prize in Best Design of PUMA Project within Team 5 for their urban vehicle concept and the same design will be developed as a product for next year global Competition.

Workshop on Millet Foods for Dieticians and Chefs in collaboration with KSDA, GoK

Nutrition and Nutraceutical Research Centre (NNRC) of RUAS had successfully hosted the Two – Days Workshop on ‘Millet Foods for Dieticians and Chefs’ in collaboration with Karnataka State Department of Agriculture, GoK. In particular, Dr. K. Krishnappa, Coordinator GoK-ICRISAT Programs provided the technical support and insight for the workshop. The key objective of this workshop was to create an awareness regarding the benefits of using millet in our day to day life.

The welcome address of the workshop was delivered by Prof. S.R. Shankapal, The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, RUAS. The inaugural address was delivered by Shri. Krishna Byre Gowda, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture, GoK. Subsequently, the Souvenir of the Workshop was released by Shri. M.R. Kodandaram, Hon’ble Director, GEF. The Presidential address was delivered by Dr. M.R. Jayaram, Hon’ble Chairman, GEF and Chancellor, RUAS. Finally, the Vote of Thanks was proposed by Prof. Govind R. Kadambi, Pro VC – Research, RUAS.

On Day-1, the keynote address was delivered by Padmashree Dr. V. Prakash, FRSC, Distinguished Scientist and Former Director of CFTRI, Mysuru on ‘Journey of Cereals with Nutri-Gains for Nutrition and Nutraceuticals’. This was followed by Technical Sessions by the Experts from IIMR, NIN and panel discussion was also organized comprising of eminent Dieticians, Chefs, Doctors and Food Bloggers. An exhibition on millets was organised by the stake holders and sponsors in the afternoon session.

On Day-2, the introductory remarks was presented by Shri. Krishna Byre Gowda, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture, GoK. Later, various recipe using millets were demonstrated by Chef Ramaswamy Selvaraju from Vivantha By Taj, Ms. Vani Anamdas, ICRISAT, Hyderabad and Faculty members from FHMCT. More than 150 participants which include Dieticians, Nutritionists, Doctors, Hotel Management Students and 40 representatives from various eminent Hotels attended and participated in the workshop.

A Two Day workshop on “Information Geometry” was organized by Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science and Humanities of RUAS. Prof. Michel Nguiffo Boyom from University of Montpellier, France delivered the Workshop on the topics like ‘Structures in Complex Systems (Big Data), Relevant Notions in Elementary Linear Algebra, Critiques about the Current Stochastic Theory’. RUAS is happy to inform that an agreement for research collaboration for advancing sustainable waste management in India was signed between the WtERT-India and RUAS in association with National Environmental Engineering Institute (NEERI). In particular, Sanitation, Waste Management and Environmental Engineering Research Centre headed by Dr. B.S. Dayananda will be spearheading the activities of WtERT-India from RUAS. WtERT-India is a sister organisation of Global WtERT Council (GWC) which is founded by Earth Engineering Center of Columbia University, USA.

An invited discussion on Municipality and Hospitality Waste Management by Dr. A.N. Yellappa Reddy, Environmentalist was organized by Sanitation Waste Management and Environmental Engineering Research Centre (SWMEERC). Dr. B.S. Dayananda, Associate Academic Registrar – FET, RUAS and Head of SWMEERC delivered the Welcome Address. Subsequently, brief introduction about Dr. A.N. Yellapa Reddy was presented by Dr. S. Pruthvish, Prof. and HoD, Community Medicine, Ramaiah Medical College. All members from the Research Centre, interested faculty members from the University, PG Students actively participated in the discussion. The invited discussion included various themes and topics related to municipality and hospitality waste management like waste water treatment, waste segregation practices, rain water harvesting, creative ways to utilize waste for novel applications etc. Finally the Vote of Thanks was proposed by Mrs. Rashmi Koppar, Academic Registrar - FHMCT, RUAS.

European Study Tour by FHMCT

The students and Faculty of FHMCT had gone on a 9 day EUROPEAN STUDY TOUR to France, Belgium and the Netherlands. The study tour covered the famous wine producing region of France, Reims in the Region of Marne. The students learnt the entire production of Champagne and also studied the production of cheese in the region. In Paris, the students discovered the renowned Cultural heritage of France as they walked through the royal splendors of Versailles, the Louvre which houses Da Vinci's Mona Lisa and many other historic tourist attractions. A view of the city of Paris from the Eiffel Tower and a cruise along the River Seine were the prominent added attractions of the tour.
In Belgium, they visited a chocolate workshop and witnessed the operations of a 5 star hotel even as they enjoyed the tourist attractions like the Atomium, the Mannekin Pis statue as well as the Grand Palace. Amsterdam with its canal cruise was the perfect place conclusion to the 3 nation study tour with a tour to see the manufacture of Dutch cheese along with taking in the splendors and beauty of Europe.

International Day of Yoga

The third International Day of Yoga was celebrated on 21 June 2017 in Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences in association with Ramaiah Indic Specialty Ayurveda Restoration Hospital (MISARC), Jeevana Yoga Pratishthana, Ramaiah Memorial Hospital and Narayana Heart Centre. A brief talk on benefits of yoga was given by Mr. Nagendra BN, Yoga Therapist from MISARC. Acharya Arun Prakash of Jeevan Yoga Pratishthana started the program with Omkara and his team demonstrated the various yoga asanas in standing, sitting, lying back on back and lying down on tummy postures to the audience.

Student International Internship in St. Petersburg, Russia

The internship of RUAS students of B.Tech (Civil Engineering-FT- 2014), Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology at St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (SPSUACE), Russia, took place from June 03 to 19, 2017 and was part of the International Student Internship Program “Aspects of Modern Civil Engineering”. Students have attended thematic talks at the Civil Engineering Department, visited SPSUACE laboratories and learned about specifics of contemporary construction in Russia. The historical sites of architectural and of civil engineering significance were also covered in the program.

The delegation from Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) has visited RUAS on May 17th 2017. Ms. Olga Pogosyan, Deputy Head of the Office of International Activities of MAI and Mr. Alexey Zarechenskiy, Deputy Head of the International Projects Department of the Office of International Activities of MAI have met with Prof. S. R. Shankapal, Vice Chancellor of RUAS and Mr. N. C. Shekar, Registrar&CFO of RUAS to explore collaboration areas in scientific and educational activities of MAI and RUAS.

Meeting of University Ethics Committee for Human Trials (UECHT)

Meeting of UECHT was conducted at the Gnanagangotri Campus with the agenda of discussion regarding Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for registration of UECHT with Drug Control General of India (DCGI). Meeting was chaired by Dr. Mohammad Faizuddin, Consultant Periodontist while Dr. Latha Anandakrishna as the member secretary conducted the proceedings of the meeting. Professor Govind R. Kadambi, Dr. Saraswati Rao, Dr. V. Narendranath, Dr. BV Sreenivasa Murthy, Dr. Kavitha Prasad, Dr. Shwetha K.M., Dr. S. Bharath, Dr. Maheshwari, Dr. Anita Murali, Mr. Chidanada Kulkarani, Mr. Ravi, Dr. Elizabeth Dominic, Dr. Sandhya Iya as members of the committee deliberated on several aspects of SOP and gave their opinion. Meeting concluded with general consensus on the SOP with directions from the chairperson to initiate registration process.

Visit of Professor S. Ganesan and Professor Mala Rao from BARC

Professor S. Ganesan, Raja Ramanna Fellow of the Department of Atomic Energy and a Scientific Consultant to Principal Scientific Advisor to Government of India and Dr. Mala Rao, Head - Neutron Instrumentation in BARC visited Peenya Campus of RUAS. The visit was to discuss Thermal Neutron Scattering on Moderator and Structural materials in Nuclear Reactors. Professor Govind Kadambi Pro VC and other faculty members from RUAS took part in the meeting. Professor Ganesan presented the recent interest worldwide on the neutron cross section data for the materials in view of large discrepancies seen in the Neutron Thermal Scattering Data used by the latest Evaluated Neutron Data Files and those arrived at by current experiments. The professor stressed the need for experiments in the area with involvement of faculty from universities like RUAS. Dr. Mala Rao, an expert in measuring dynamical excitations in condensed matter using neutron inelastic scattering measurements and theoretical lattice dynamics made a presentation on the world class experimental facilities available in BARC for conducting Thermal Neutron Scattering measurements. Professor Hariharan made a presentation on some optimization algorithms which may find relevance in the analysis of measurements of Thermal Neutron Scattering. Professor Keshavamurthy made a presentation on the proposal prepared by RUAS for collaboration with BARC on measurements and theoretical studies to arrive at Validated Thermal Neutron Scattering Law for the materials BeO, Graphite and SiC.

Dr. Athanasios C. Bourtsalas, Adjunct Professor, Earth and Environmental Engineering, Columbia University, USA visited RUAS. The Professor delivered a guest lecture on “Alleviating the Problem of Open Dumping: Waste to Energy and Recovery”. The guest lecture was attended by the faculty members of Energy and Power Systems Research Centre, and Sanitation, Waste Management and Environmental Engineering Research Centre. In addition, Dr. Athanasios emphasized about Waste to Energy guide book and GWC membership with regard to global and local perspective.

The Professor delivered a guest lecture on the topic“Power Electronics for 21st Century Energy Economy” at Peenya Campus which was attended by faculty members and student. In addition, Dr. Krishna Shenai interacted with the members of Energy and Power Systems Research Centre (EPSRC) and Sanitation Waste Management and Environmental Engineering Research Centre (SWMERC). The Professor also visited the various laboratory facilities of the University and appreciated the same.

Guest Lecture by Dr. V. Prakash - Vice President-IUNS, UK; Chairman-EHEDG, Germany and President-ISNaNN

Nutrition and Nutraceutical Research Centre (NNRC) of Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences organized a guest lecture titled ‘Smart Foods - Rich with Nutritionals and Nutraceuticals’ by Dr. V. Prakash, Vice President, IUNS, UK; Chairman - EHEDG, Germany and President - International Society for Nutraceuticals, Nutritionals and Naturals (ISNaNN). The Welcome address was delivered by Prof. Govind R. Kadambi, Pro- Vice Chancellor (Research). The guest lecture was attended by representatives from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Management and Commerce, Faculty of Science and Humanities, Faculty of Dental Sciences and Faculty of Hospitality Management and Catering Technology along with Department of Community Medicine, Ramaiah Medical College, Department of Dietetics and Nutrition, Ramaiah Memorial Hospital. The guest lecture gave an insight into the importance of Nutritionals and Nutraceuticals present in foods and its role in ‘Health and Wellness’. The guest lecture was followed by an interactive session with Dr. V. Prakash.

International Internship of St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering students (Russia) at RUAS

St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (Russia) M. Tech students of Construction Engineering Management came to RUAS to undertake the International Internship “Aspects of Modern Civil Engineering” from March 08 to 19, 2017. Apart from classes at the Civil Engineering Department and RUAS laboratories and workshops, Russian students had the chance to learn about present-day construction technologies and skills in India. Students also got a glimpse of Ancient India contribution to world architecture and civil engineering. The Internship coincided with the AKAIRA-2017 festival held by RUAS which was an excellent opportunity for Russian students to interact informally with RUAS Faculties and students.

Launch of SASTech Journal website at 1st Pharmaceutical Sciences Congress

Ramaiah University’s - SASTech Journal website (www.sastechjournal.com) was launched by Prof. B. Suresh, President, PCI, New Delhi and Vice- Chancellor, JSS University, Mysuru, Karnataka at the 1st Pharmaceutical Sciences Congress. SASTech Journal is a comprehensive multi-disciplinary technical journal with its inception in 2002. Moreover, it is a double-blinded peer-reviewed half-yearly journal published by Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Bengaluru and publication of accepted papers does not involve any processing or publication fees. The research themes of the SASTech Journal encompass Engineering, Physical Sciences, Industrial Design and Pharmaceutical Sciences focusing on applied research and product innovation. The Editorial Board of SASTech Journal comprise of academicians, researchers and industry professionals from India and abroad.

Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences hosts the 1st Pharmaceutical Sciences Congress

The First Pharmaceutical Sciences Congress was organized at Ramiah University of Applied Sciences, Bengaluru. The theme of the congress was “Connecting Pharmaceutical Sciences and Knowledge Advancement”. The Chief Guests were Dr. Ronald T. Piervincenzi, Chief Executive Officer, United States Pharmacopoeia, Madison, USA; Prof. B. Suresh, President, PCI, New Delhi and Vice- Chancellor, JSS University, Mysuru and Prof. S.R. Shankapal, Vice Chancellor, Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Bengaluru. The Guest of Honours were Dr. Mathew T. Thomas, Country Director, U.S. FDA - India Office; Dr. S. Eswara Reddy, Joint Drug Controller, Government of India, New Delhi; Dr. Khanapure, Drug Controller, Karnataka State, Bengaluru. In addition, Prof. K. Chinnaswamy, President - Indian Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (IACP), Chennai delivered the opening remarks on the 1st Pharmaceutical Congress. Subsequently, Prof. B. Jayakar, Secretary - IACP and Principal, Vinayaka Mission’s College of Pharmacy, Salem presented the IACP Report. More than 1000 Delegates actively participated in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Congress. In parallel, Scientific Abstract CD was released by Dr. Mathew T. Thomas. Lastly, Vote of Thanks was proposed by Prof. V. Madhavan, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy.

Prestigious Guest Lecture by Dr. M. Annadurai, Director of ISAC

Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences organised a Prestigious Guest Lecture by Dr. M. Annadurai (Padmashri Awardee – 2016), Distinguished Scientist and Director of ISAC on the topic “Science and Technology in India: A Critical View”. Dr. M. Annadurai shared his learnings at ISRO and key challenges faced in handling Chandrayaan - 1 and Mars Orbiter Mission. Further, Dr. M. Annadurai made the audience to retrospect the status of Indian Science with real-life experiences emphasizing on ‘Out of the Box Thinking’ and ‘Systematic Implementation’. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. S.R. Shankapal, delivered the welcome address and the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research), Prof. Govind R. Kadambi, proposed the Vote of Thanks. All Faculty members and students from the University actively participated in the Prestigious Guest Lecture.

Akaira 2017

Akaira 2017, the Cultural Fest of RUAS was celebrated on 10th and 11th March 2017 in Peenya campus. The inaugural function was held on 10 Feb morning. Dr. Bhagwan, Legendary Director Producer and Actor was the Chief Guest. The function began with Ms. Mouna from FET rendering the invocation song. Mr. Sajid Ahmed from FMC welcomed the gathering. Mr. Manmohan student coordinator of FSH introduced the Chief Guest. Dr Bhagwan addressed the gathering followed by the traditional Lighting of Lamp. Later the Chief Guest was felicitated by Prof Govind R Kadambi, Pro VC, Mr. Manjunath Nayak, Director -Student Affairs, and Deans. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Arun R, Chief Coordinator of Akaira 2017 from FET.

Altogether 34 events were held which included off stage events like Rangoli, Sketching, Collage, Cooking without Fire, Minute to Win It, Singing (Classical & non-classical) solo & group, , Pictionary, Debate, Quiz, Photography, Best out of Waste, Nail Art, Face Painting, Short Film, Flower Arrangement, Creative Writing, Dub smash, Essay Writing, Mannequin Challenge, Quiz, Rebuttal, Scavenger Hunt, Sell a Product, Short Film, Street Play and on stage events like Mime, Taboo, Anthakshari (Hindi & Kannada), Fashion Show, Air Crash, Dancing (Solo & group all forms), Mad Ads, Adapt to Tune, Beat Boxing.

The valedictory function was held on 11th March evening. Mr. Tushar from FET welcomed the gathering. Ms. Pranitha from FPH introduced the Guests of Honor, Ms. Priyadarshini, renowned play back singer of South India and Mr. Mahesh Mahadev, well known music composer and music director, to the gathering. This was followed by the address by Ms. Priyadarshini and Mr. Mahesh Mahadev. Presidential address was delivered by Prof. Govind R Kadambi, PVC. Mr Dawood from FHMCT shared his experiences of Akaira 2017. This was followed by prize distribution. Finally valedictory function was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Shruthi from FDS.

The last program of the Fest was the DJ Night which the students thoroughly enjoyed. The Fest was sponsored by M/s Bhagirath Construction Company, Axis Bank, Indian Oil, Star 555 Hostel, V2 Hostels, New Ruchi Bhawan and Sri Vinayaka Caterers. Akaira 2017 went well because of sincere and dedicated contributions from staff and student coordinators.

Appreciation and Citation in GYTI-2017 Awards at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi

Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (RUAS) proudly announces the selection of one of the Masters’ Dissertation from Faculty of Engineering and Technology for the Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI) Awards – 2017 held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. The project titled “Enhancement of Distribution System Performance HVAC Boost Converter and Fuzzy Controller” was executed by Ms. Anusha Vadde and supervised by Mr. V.S.N. Sitaram Gupta. The Chairperson, Research Advisory Committee, SRISTI and NIF, Dr. R.A. Mashelkar, was present at the GYTI - 2017 Awards function along with other dignitaries like Prof. Anil Gupta from IIM - Ahmedabad etc. Out of 2715 nominations across 54 categories for GYTI – 2017 Awards, this project was one among the 39 shortlisted innovations showcased at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. On behalf of our Hon’ble VC and all the Staff members, the Research Division congratulates Ms. Anusha and Mr. Sitaram for their outstanding achievement.

PG Project Exhibition-2017

Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (RUAS) has organized PG Group project exhibition to showcase the innovative work of the post graduate students from various fields on Feb 28th 2017 at Peenya campus. The exhibition was inaugurated by Shri. Venkatesh Valluri, Founder and Chairman, Valluri Technology Accelerators and Valluri Change Foundation. Cdr (Retd) Gopakumar, GM, BEL spoke on the opportunities available in the defense industry for innovative projects. Mr Anil Uppin, MD, Karnataka Council for Technological Upgradation said that Karnataka State Government has very good schemes for upcoming projects and entrepreneurs. Prof. S. R. Shankapal, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor welcomed the gathering.

The Postgraduate Group Project Work is meant to train students on development of products that are innovative and useful to the society. Each project is developed by a team comprising members from inter and multi-disciplinary domain areas. The teams conceive, design and develop such projects by applying the knowledge and understanding gained during their coursework. There are more than 100 projects on display in the areas of engineering and technology, art and design, management and commerce, Dental Sciences and Pharmacy. Many of these project ideas have the potential of becoming commercialisable products. The exhibition was organised to provide an opportunity for public to visit and interact with exhibitors.

Three Days Workshop on “Molecular Docking, Virtual Screening and Computational Biology” in association with Schrodinger

Pharmacological Modelling and Simulation Centre (PMSC) had successfully organised a three days Workshop on “Molecular Docking, Virtual Screening & Computational Biology”. The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Raghu R, Vice-President, Schrodinger, Prof. Govind R. Kadambi, Pro - Vice Chancellor (Research), Prof. V. Madhavan, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy. Research scholars and Academicians of different life science specialities such as Pharmacy, Biotechnology, Chemistry and Medicine (MD Pharmacology) of reputed Universities/Colleges from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra actively participated. This workshop provided a platform for the inter-disciplinary professionals to understand various concepts of computational biology along with hands-on training on various modules of Schrodinger’s Computer Aided Drug Design by Dr. Pritesh Bhat and Mr. Vinod Devaraji, Application Scientists - Schrodinger. Moreover, the workshop was focused on target selection and refinement for docking studies, virtual screening, 3D- QSAR, pharmacophore and homology modelling.

14th Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry (ISPPD) - National PG Convention at RUAS

14th ISPPD National PG Convention: PEDO – CARIE 2017 was organized at Ramaiah University, Bengaluru. The Chief Guest for the Convention was Dr. Sharanaprakash Patil, Hon’ble Minister for Medical Education, Government of Karnataka. The Guest of Honours were Dr. Swarna Rekha Bhat, Senior Consultant - Pediatrician, Mazumdar Shaw Medical Centre; Dr. Jayakar Shetty, Vice President, Dental Council of India; Prof. S.R. Shankapal, Vice Chancellor, RUAS; Dr. Virinder Goyal, President - ISPPD. More than 700 Delegates actively participated in the National PG Convention. The leadership group of Faurecia, Mr. Aufrere Christophe, CTO; Mr. Dhana Radhakrishnan, FCM Director; Mr. Remi Daudin, FTCI Director and Mr. Ranjith Chockalingam, Sr. Manager – Product Engineering visited the Peenya Campus of RUAS. Prof. S.R. Shankapal, Vice Chancellor, RUAS gave a brief presentation on solutions provided to Industry problems by the University. Further, details of International Publications with overseas Universities was presented. Later the leadership group visited Research Centres and laboratories of the University.

Inauguration of Garment Design, Manufacturing & Quality Control centre was held on 7th February 2017 at Peenya campus. Centre was inaugurated by Hon'ble minister for Textile and Mujarai, GoK, Shri. Rudrappa Manappa Lamani. Mr. R. Girish, Commissioner, Dept. of Handloom and Textiles,GoK and Dr. R. Raju, MD, Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited, GoK, were the guests of honour. Dr. M. R. Jayaram, Chancellor, RUAS was presided over the function. Dr. S. R. Shakapal, Vice-chancellor, RUAS welcomed the gathering and Mr. Lohit H.S., Associate Dean, FAD, RUAS was briefed about the newly inaugurated centre.

Service to Society Programme from RUAS

The staff and students of RUAS undertook the mandatory service to society program on January 27 & 28 2017 as part of its academic calendar schedule. A total of 36 teams from all the faculties participated in it. Each team consisted of around 35 students and staff. The teams went to rural places in Bangalore rural, Chitradurga, Mandya, Ramanagara, Tumkur, Chickkaballapur districts. A few teams conducted it in the city.

The activities included visiting schools, orphanages and rural communities for dental and health checkups, creating awareness on demonetization, cashless transaction, traffic rules, road safety, women empowerment, energy conservation, waste management, keeping the environment clean, civic sense, personal hygiene, oral hygiene, food adulteration, good eating habits, nutritive foods, ill effects of tobacco & alcohol consumption, importance of education & physical fitness, career guidance, internet usage to gather farming information, government schemes to meet agriculture & education expenses, savings schemes.

Donation of books and stationary items to school children was done by a few teams. Singing, dancing and craft making activities were conducted in the schools. Cleaning the school and village premises, painting the school walls, planting saplings were some of the other activities conducted. Pamphlets distribution and skits were performed to drive home some of the above mentioned awareness programs. Visit to a school for mentally challenged was undertaken by some teams and recreational activities were conducted. Refurbishment of bus shelter in a village was undertaken by one of the teams. A couple of teams visited a forest near Bangalore and helped the staff in cleaning the area to prevent forest fire.

A delegation from University of Applied Sciences, Nysa, Poland and IEEF – Poland visited RUAS to explore the possibility of writing Joint Project Proposals, Organizing International Conferences and Student Mobility programmes. In particular, Ms. Anna Oplalka, Head of External Relations Department and Dr. Piotr Opalka, Lecturer, Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning, University of Applied Sciences, Nysa Poland along with Dr. Pradeep Kumar, President Indo-European Education Foundation (IEEF) visited RUAS. Our Hon’ble VC, Prof. S. R. Shankapal, presented an overview of our University to the delegation. In parallel, delegation from University of Applied Sciences, Nysa presented the possible opportunities for collaborations. All Deans and Directors from Research Division and International Collaboration and Partnership Management attended the meeting.

The Research and Innovation Council (RIC) meeting was organised by the Research Division. Our Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. S.R. Shankapal chaired the meeting. Further, Pro -Vice Chancellor (Research), Registrar and CFO, Academic Registrar, Deans and External Members from Industry and Academia attended the meeting. The progress and main activities of Research Division which included details of Doctoral Programme, Sponsored Research along with University Publications and Patents were presented to the committee. All the members participated actively and provided useful suggestions for the Research activities of the University.

Swamy Vivekananda Birth Anniversary Celebration

Students of RUAS enthusiastically participated in the 154th birth anniversary celebration of Swamy Vivekananda held on 18 January 2017 organized by Government of Karnataka at Palace Ground, Bangalore. The function was inaugurated by Chief Minister Shri Siddaramaiah and a pledge was taken by him to follow Swamy Vivekananda’s principles. The organizers performed a skit about Swamy Vivekananda’s life history and rendition of nadageetha songs. The program concluded with singing of national anthem.

A delegation from Faurecia Technical Center India Pvt. Ltd. visited MSRUAS, Peenya Campus to understand the research capabilities of our University. Our Hon’ble VC, Prof. S. R. Subsequently, representatives from Techno Centre, Faculty of Art and Design, and Faculty of Engineering and Technology made a presentation about the research projects executed by their respective Centre/Department. Later, the representative from Faurecia Technical Center India Pvt. Ltd. highlighted the expectations from the University to move forward in a win-win situation. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (RUAS) organised a ‘Discussion on Research Activities of Nutraceutical and Nutrition Research Centre (NNRC)’ at FHMCT, Gnanagangothri Campus. The Welcome address was delivered by Prof. Govind R. Kadambi, PVC –Research who spoke about the importance of Research in our University. The programme was inaugurated by the Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. S.R. Shankapal, RUAS. Dr. V. Prakash, Distinguished Scientist – CSIR addressed the faculty members of NNRC and welcomed the concept of Research in Nutraceuticals and initiated discussions on the same. THE NNRC meeting was also attended by the Deans and HoDs of Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Dental Sciences, Pharmacy and Department of Chemistry. Prof. Abby Mathew, Dean, FHMCT addressed the gathering and welcomed Dr. V. Prakash’s contribution. The day long discussions comprised of presentations on usage of Navane, Ragi, Bajra and Whey to address specific Health Issues and creating awareness on Food Safety and Balanced Diets. SAMPARK 2016 - First Alumni Meet of Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences

SAMPARK 2016, the First Annual Alumni Meet of Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (RUAS) was celebrated on Saturday, 17th December 2016. The formal inauguration was held in University Auditorium, Gnanagangothri Campus in the morning.  The day began with registration of Alumni Members including distribution of registration kits and T Shirts.  The inaugural began with invocation by Ms. Anusooya, an Alumnus of Department of Mathematics, Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences. This was followed by a welcome address by Mr. Arup Bhattacharya, Chief – HR, RUAS. In his welcome address, he explained the objectives of Alumni Association and the need for an Alumni Network Portal. After the welcome, Prof. S R Shankapal, Vice Chancellor, RUAS gave a brief about the University and the education process being followed.  He also brought out the emphasis the University is giving to research and in this connection appealed to the Alumni to donate generously towards the Ph. D. Endowment Fund established by the university to give scholarships to 30 Ph. D. scholars annually to pursue their Doctoral Program.  The Vice Chancellor’s speech was followed by speeches from few eminent Alumni who were also the Guests for the function.  Among those who spoke included Dr. Baswaraj, Alumnus of BDS from the 1993-94 batch of MS Ramaiah Dental College.  He is currently Professor & Head of Department of Prosthodontics, Subbaiah Dental College, Shimoga, Karnataka, Mr Ramkumar J alumnus of M S Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies (MSRSAS) & currently the Principal Mechanical Design Engineer at Medtronic, Mr Binu Sebastian alumnus of MSRSAS and currently working as Lead Designer Design Quality at General Motors and Mr Ashwinchand Bolar alumnus of MSRSAS and currently working with Dura Automotive Services, Hyderabad as Program Leader for new product development.  The formal inauguration ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Kranti K, Professor at Faculty of Dental Sciences.

After the inaugural function all alumni and staff left for Peenya campus where a grand lunch was arranged.  This was followed by a musical extravaganza “Project Raghu Dixit”.  The alumni, staff and current students of the University thoroughly enjoyed the two hour musical program.  Finally it was time for everyone to say good bye with a promise to meet in the next Alumni Meet, SAMPARK 2017.

MSRUAS Wins a Prize at “The Big Debate”

The National HRD Network (NHRDN), Bangalore Chapter organized “The Big Debate” for students (UG and PG). 28 teams participated in the first round of selection on November 19th,2016. 6 teams were selected for the semi-final round, held on December 7th, 2016. A team of four students from our university was among these 6 semi-finalists.
The details of the students are:

1. Raghavendra Swamy- ECE - 5th Sem
2. Akash Sullia - CS - 5th Sem
3. Madhurya R - EEE - 5th Sem
4. Raghavendra P. H - 1st Sem

The teams who qualified to the top 6 were mentored by Industry bigwigs. Our team was mentored by Mr. Deepak Shetty, Director HR of Philips Innovation Campus.

The topics for the semi- final and final rounds were:

1. GST unifies India as a market but makes goods expensive.
2. BREXIT and anit-immigrant rhetoric in U.S. elections is bad for globalization?
3. Digitisation of the world is invading privacy of people.
4. Government should exit running businesses (e.g. PSUs) and focus on people welfare?
5. Recent demonetization is good for the Indian economy.

Our team qualified to the finals of this prestigious competition. They were adjudged “Runners Up” which carried a cash prize of Rs.40,000/-

Student International Internship in St. Petersburg, Russia

MSRUAS Second year M. Tech students of FET, Department of Civil Engineering, went to St. Petersburg, Russia, to undergo their International Students Internship in St. Petersburg University of Architecture and Civil Engineering from November 07, 2016 until November 26, 2016. Students have attended various classes and participated in lab workshops, have visited many significant civil infrastructure and architecture sites in St. Petersburg and surrounding area. As part of their journey they have also explored the architecture and cultural heritage of the old Russian cities of Kazan and Moscow.

Research Workshop and MOU Signing with Planet Aerospace

M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (MSRUAS) and Planet Aerospace entered into a MOU where each of the parties intend to cooperate in dissemination of academic knowledge, collaborative research and consultancy. RUAS in association with Planet Aerospace organized a one – day workshop on “Satellite Architecture for a Remote Sensing Satellite” for Faculty members and students involved in Micro Satellite Dream Team. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. S. R. Shankapal, Vice - Chancellor, RUAS and Shri R.K. Rajangam, Retd. Scientist – ISRO and President – Planet Aerospace. Technical Sessions from various eminent speakers of Planet Aerospace covered the topics like Introduction on Mission, Orbits, Spacecraft, Configuration, Realization; Remote Sensing Payloads and Data Handling; Telemetry, Tracking and Command; Structure, Thermal Control and Mechanisms; Power Systems; Control Systems including Propulsion. The Welcome Address was delivered by Prof. Govind R. Kadambi, Pro – Vice Chancellor (Research), RUAS and Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Hariharan Ramasangu, Professor and Head, Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, RUAS.

Annual Athletic Meet-2016

The 3rd annual athletic meet of RUAS was held on Saturday 19th November, 2016 in GEF (CITRA )Ground, M S R Nagara Bangalore. The Chief Guest for the inauguration program was Mr. Shivananda, IA, International Athlete and Ekalavya Awardee .The inauguration program began with an invocation from Ms. Mouna, 3rd year EEE student,followed by the University flag hoisting by the Chief Guest and March Past of athletes. The welcome speech was given by Mr. Dayananda D B Sports Manager, after which the Torch Run was conducted. The Chief Guest in his address exhorted all the students to devote some time to physical fitness and sports which would lead to physical and mental development of the human body. . The Oath was taken by Mr. Mohammed Safwan behalf of all the participants. Later the President of the function, Vice Chancellor Prof.Shankapal gave the presidential address and mentioned that excellent sports facility and infrastructure will be created for University students.After which the meet was declared open by the Chief Guest. The inauguration program concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Mr. Kumar, Manager Sports . The role of MC was performed by Ms. Anusha Student of M.Com final year.

The events included sprints and middle distance running for students like 100 mts, 200 mts, 400 mts, 800 mts, 1500mts, , 4 x 100 mts relay, 4 x 400 mts relay and field events like shot put, discus, javelin, long jump, high jump and triple jump. For staff the events included 50 mts (for women) 100 mts (for men), shot put, discus, sac race, hitting the wicket and tug of war. The Best Athlete Male was Mr. Manoj kumar S from B Pharm 3rd year and Best Athlete Female was Ms. Ashwini B D S 2nd year. The overall champions for the rolling trophy were Faculty of Dental sciences with 79 points.

Swachh Day at RUAS

Swachh Day was observed in Peenya campus on Tuesday, 15th November 2016. Dr. Narahari, Dean- FET addressed the enthusiastic students and staff and spoke about importance of cleanliness. He also congratulated students and staff for keeping the University campus clean. This was followed by pledge taking for cleanliness by students and staff.

Afternoon students and staff actively participated in cleaning the sports ground and premises of the University Campus.This Program was coordinated by Directorate of Student Placement Welfare and Career Advice (DSPWCA) of University

Inauguration of Ph.D. Programme - September 2016 Batch

RUAS inaugurated its 2nd Batch of Ph.D. Programme for the Year - 2016 on 10 November 2016 at Peenya Campus. It was inaugurated and presided over by Prof. Govind R. Kadambi, Pro Vice Chancellor (Research), Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (RUAS). Prof. H. K. Narahari, Dean - Faculty of Engineering and Technology, RUAS welcomed the gathering. In addition, Mr. N.C. Shekar, Registrar & CFO, RUAS and Dr. K. Pushpanjali, Academic Registrar, RUAS graced the occasion by their presence. In parallel, Deans of the Faculty, Registrars, Directors and HODs of various Departments from different branches of Engineering and Technology, Dental Sciences, Pharmacy, Art and Design, Management & Commerce, Science & Humanities and Hospitality Management & Catering Technology were present for the function along with the new Ph.D. scholars. First Convocation of Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences

The University conducted its FIRST Convocation on Friday, 4th November 2016 at 4:30 pm in University House, Gnangangothri Campus, New BEL Road, Bangalore. It was a historic and memorable day as all the graduates of first batch were conferred a Masters Degree of Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences. Graduands of M.Tech., M. Des., MBA, MHA, M.Sc. and M.Pharm. programme were conferred with M.Tech., M. Des., MBA, MHA, M.Sc. and M.Pharm. degrees respectively. Well-known Missile Scientist, Dr. A. Sivathanu Pillai, recipient of Padma Bhushan delivered the Convocation Address. Dr. M. R. Jayaram, Chancellor of the University gave away medals to the toppers of respective programmes. Deans of respective faculties conferred the degrees to the graduands.

Inauguration of Pharmacological Modelling and Simulation Centre at Faculty of Pharmacy

The Pharmacological Modelling and Simulation Centre (PMSC) was inaugurated at Faculty of Pharmacy by the Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof. S.R. Shankapal, RUAS, Prof. T. K. Ravi, Principal, College of Pharmacy, Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Paramedical Sciences, Coimbatore, Prof. C. Uma Maheswara Reddy, Faculty of Pharmacy, Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai and Prof. Govind R. Kadambi, Pro - Vice Chancellor. In particular, Prof. T.K. Ravi inaugurated the Post Graduate computer laboratory and PMSC research centre. Prof C. Uma Maheswara Reddy inaugurated the Under Graduate computer laboratory. Following to this a workshop on Research proposal writing was organised by Drug Design and Development Centre (DDDC) and PMSC, conducted by Prof. Ravi Sundaresan, IISc, Bangalore and Prof. Raghu Prasad, Vishnu College of Pharmacy, Andhra Pradesh.

As a part of IISc Extension Lecture programme, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy had organised a guest lecture. The lecture was delivered by Dr. M. Paffenbarger Award to Dr. Sivaranjani Gali, FDS at Academy of Dental Materials, Chicago

Dr. Sivaranjani Gali, Reader – Department of Prosthodontics, Faculty of Dental Sciences has won the Paffenbarger Award at the Academy of Dental Materials – 2016 Annual Meeting, Chicago. She was one of the three recipients winning the third place and being the First Indian to have won this award for “The Best Paper in Dental Material Research”.

‘Prestigious Guest Lecture Series of Collège de France’ at RUAS

In association with French Consulate of India – Bangalore office, the Research Division of RUAS organised the ‘Prestigious Collège de France Lecture Series’ at the Peenya Campus. In view of this, Professor Clément Sanchez, Chair of Chemistry of Hybrid Materials at the renowned institution of Collège de France addressed the Faculty members and Post Graduate Students. The topic of the guest lecture was on ‘Biomimetism and Bioinspiration: Sources of Knowledge to Create New Materials’. Subsequently, Dr. Jerome Bove representing French Consulate in India – Bangalore office addressed the prospective Post Graduate students to take up Doctoral Studies at France. The guest lecture was attended by the Faculty members of the University along with the Post Graduate students with active participation.

Appreciation to the Prototype Model of Agri Robot at Krishimela – 2016, Dharwad

M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (MSRUAS) is jointly working with UAS - Dharwad on the project “Development of Multifunctional Agricultural Robot for Agricultural Operations”. As a part of this project, the faculty member of FET displayed the prototype model of Agri Robot at Krishimela – 2016, Dharwad. The Agri Robot prototype attracted thousands of farmers and many other people involved in Agriculture at the event. In addition, Agri Robot was appreciated by farmers, agro - industrial entrepreneurs and general public.

Fresher's Day - 2016

Fresher’s Day for the under graduate students batch -2016 of the University was celebrated in Peenya campus on Saturday 10th September 2016. Dr. A Sivathanu Pillai, Honorary Distinguished Professor, ISRO was the Chief Guest for the function.

Prof. Govind R Kadambi, Pro VC-Research welcomed the chief guest, gathering and also introduced the chief guest. This was followed by 2nd year students of all faculties welcoming the fresher’s and the fresher’s giving their views and expectations.

Cultural programs like singing, dancing, skit and instrumental was performed by enthusiastic students from both first and second year. It was well received by the huge crowd of students and staff of the University.

Joint Seminar on ‘Smart Cities’ Between Swiss Universities and MSRUAS

A delegation from the Swiss Universities of Applied Sciences visited Peenya Campus of MSRUAS. The delegation involved Professors from Swiss Universities like University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI), University of Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland (HES-SO), Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) etc. In addition, a joint seminar on ‘Smart Cities’ was organised between Swiss and MSRUAS Professors. The delegates were impressed with the diversity, breadth and the comprehensive nature of our University. Many individual Swiss Professors were interacting with the Faculty members of MSRUAS showing keenness on Research topics with special interest to them.

Teacher's Day Celebration 2016 at FET, MSRUAS


As a tribute and honor to the contribution made by teachers to the society and to a student’s life, the students of B.Tech. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from 1st , 2nd and 3rd year came together and celebrated Teacher’s Day on September 6th 2016 at 4:30 P.M at Ramaiah University (Peenya campus). This celebration was organised to honor Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and his eminent contribution as a teacher.

A teacher has the capability to influence and mold a student’s life positively. Teachers enlighten and nurture students to shape not just their careers, but also their life. The students at the event were very glad to have had at least a day to appreciate all their teachers and show their gratitude for all the work they do round the year.The event was presided over by Dean – FET Dr. Narahari, Academic Registrar – FET Prof. Ashok Meti, and HoD of EE Dr. Manikavasagam. The students were also honored by the presence of teachers from both electrical and electronics streams along with the professors from the Mathematics department including the HoD Dr. Deepak Aralumallige.

Dr. Narahari spoke about the importance of having a good relationship between the students and the teachers. He also said that the teachers are trying their best to fulfill all the expectations of the students and to bear with them during the while. We also had the opportunity of listening to Prof. Ashok Meti speak about the educational system pertaining to engineering and how University is working towards making the students industry ready. Dr. Manikavasagam during his speech spoke about Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and the phenomenon of a person he was. He brought out the importance of celebrating this day and the need to honor the man who was his student’s beloved.

Mr. Sachin , the member of faculty of the EE department , talked about what it means to be a teacher for him on a personal level. One of our own students Miss Dharini got the chance to express her gratitude to her teachers.The event was hosted by Ms. Madhurya, a student of 3rd year , B.Tech. EEE. The initiative of organizing this event was taken up by Mr. Kumar Babu, Mr. Veeresh, Mr.Vikas and Mr.Prajwal on behalf of all the students.Everyone’s presence and involvement in the event was appreciated and thanked.

In the end, the Dean and the Academic Registrar cut the cake and it was distributed among all the faculty members and student

Faculty of Science and Humanities, RUAS Conducted One Day Seminar "Challenges in Industrial Scale Chromatographic Purification and Isolation of Natural Products" on 20-08-2016.

Dr. Neeraj Kumar Patel, Scientist, R&D, Phytochemistry division of Himalaya Drug Company, Bangalore delivered a lecture on “Recent Advances in Chromatographic Purification and Isolation of Natural Products” in 2 sessions. After noon session Mr. Basavaraja, Plant Head, Sava Health Care Private Limited, Malur, delivered a lecture on “Challenges in Process Scale Chromatography and Case Studies” in 2 sessions.

There were a total of 48 registered delegates. The audience included professionals from industries such as Syngene International, Anthem Biosciences, Natural Remedies, Academic fraternity including research scholars and PG students from Sangli (Maharashtra), Anantapur (Andrapradesh), Chennai (Tamilnadu) and various cities of Karnataka.

Blood Donation Camp Conducted

MSRUAS conducted Blood Donation Camp in Peenya Campus on 4th August 2016 in association with Rotary Bangalore Udyog and Rashtrotthana Blood Bank. A total of 119 persons donated blood, a majority of whom included staff and students of MSRUAS with a few outsiders. The donated blood would be used for children suffering from Thalassemia. Seeing the overwhelming response, it was agreed to conduct a similar camp after six months. The donors were issued certificates from both Rotary Bangalore Udyog and Rashtrotthana Blood Bank. Fruits and energy drink were given to the donors.

MSRUAS Organizes a Two day free workshop on “Outcome Based Teaching and Learning in Higher Education”

M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences organised two day workshop on “Outcome Based Teaching and Learning in Higher Education” on 29th and 30th of July 2016 under Jnanasangama programme, an initiative of Government of Karnataka. This workshop was specifically organised for faculty members of Higher Education Institutions coming under Davanagere, Mysore and Bangalore Universities.  This programme was offered free including two days of accommodation and food to the delegates coming from the districts of Mysore, Chitradurga and Bangalore urban. The workshop was approved by Directorate of Collegiate Education also.

The workshop was inaugurated by Sri S. V. Ranganath (Retired IAS), Vice Chairman, Karnataka State Higher Education Council.

The workshop comprised on 06 technical sessions and 02 group activities. The workshop was highly appreciated and all the delegates expressed that the University should periodically organize such workshops which will benefit the teaching fraternity as a whole.

MSRUAS Organizes a One Day IPR Workshop Sponsored by TIFAC, An Autonomous Body of DST, GoI

The Research Division of MSRUAS organised a One Day Workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights” sponsored by Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC), An Autonomous Body of Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India at Peenya Campus. The key speakers for the workshop were from Central Government Agencies and Patent Law Firms. The technical sessions of the workshop addressed an overview of Patents, Patenting Systems, Copyright and Design Issues, Technology Transfer and Patent Licensing Issues in India. More than 150 participants attended the workshop which included Faculty members from our University, Industry delegates and Academicians from various Educational Institutions.

Bachelor of Vocational Degree Programme(B.Voc) Inauguration

As a part of Skill India Initiative, M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences is offering a Bachelor of Vocational Degree Programme (B.Voc) a 3 year regular degree programme through its Directorate of Training and Lifelong Learning. B.Voc degree programme is similar to BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BBA but focuses largely on skill development and 30% on theoretical knowledge to help the student acquire all the skills required for the specific domain and prepare them for employment or entrepreneurial role.

The Government of India through UGC has launched many such courses across India to give importance to skill based education system in colleges and universities. Ramaiah University has initiated B.Voc courses in 12 domains after identifying areas with large need of man power requirements in India, thereby increasing the employment potential for the graduate. The Programme is offered in Passenger Car Repair and Maintenance, Machine Tool Operations and Maintenance, Garment Manufacturing and Quality Control, Product Design and Modelling, Culinary Operations, Dental Hospital Assistance, Photography and Visual Effects, Accounting and Logistics, Banking and Insurance, Retail Marketing, Office Administration and Home Care and Nursing Assistance.

Each programme is for a duration of three years, however, a candidate will have the options of having multiple entries and exits; for each entry and exit there will be an award of diploma, advanced diploma and degree respectively. A candidate is required to have 10+2 qualification to be eligible for these programmes.

Launching the programme, Shri Shrinivas Shirgurkar, Managing Director, Ace Designers Ltd, said “40% of machine tools in India are manufactured in Peenya. This industry requires skilled manpower. A B. Voc programme provides the required skills and also prepares the students for the future.”

Shri B.R.Prabhakara, former Chief Secretary, Government of Karnataka- “Rate of Obsolescence is so high that it is very important to be updated. There are many ITI courses to provide skill based training but the course content in in the M S Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences B. Voc programme are innovative. I believe many students will adopt it.”

International Day of Yoga Celebrated

The 2nd International Yoga Day was celebrated on 21st June 2016 between 8.00 AM and 10.00 AM in the Auditorium of Faculty of Dental Sciences of MSRUAS. Mr. Nagendra BN, Yoga Therapist of MSR Indic Centre for Ayurvedic and Integrative Medicine was invited for the programme. He gave a talk on the benefits of Yoga and demonstrated yoga asanas.

The Director, SPWCA Mr. Manjunath Nayak thanked Mr. Nagendra for having accepted the invitation to come for the programme and presented him with a memento. Health snacks and drinks was arranged for all the participants after the completion of the programme.

Sketching and Rendering Workshop

Sketching and Rendering Workshop has been conducted for MSRUAS Faculty of Art&Design students by Nikita Lebedev and Viktoria Lebedeva on May 6, 2016. Students from St. Petersburg Stieglitz Academy of Art and Industrial Design, Russia, (Faculty of Design, Department of Industrial Design). Focus was on overcoming challenges that the Industrial Designers might face during their work on a certain project. Russian students have shared some sketching techniques which they have learnt back in their Academy. All students have practiced their own drawings and consequently reviewed them with Russian students. The workshop concluded with finalizing remarks by Mr. H. S. Lohit, Associate Dean of Faculty of Art and Design.

Visit of the delegates from École des mines de Douai (ENSMD), France

Visit of the delegates from École des mines de Douai (ENSMD), France to MSRUAS took place on April 25, 2016. ENSMD is a French National Graduate School of Engineering located in the northern France and is also a Research Center under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry. In MSRUAS Mr. Emmanuel Dequeker, Chief of the international affairs, ENSMD and Dr.Kalappa Prashantha, PhD, DSc., ENSMD participated in Interactive sessions with Faculties of FET and FSH on common areas of research interests and academic collaboration. Delegates saw the MSRUAS Departments, Laboratories and Workshops. Visit concluded with a discussion with Vice Chancellor about prospective international collaboration of MSRUAS and ENSMD.

Prof. G. R. Reddy, Outstanding Scientist, Homi Bhabha National Institute, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai visited MSRUAS for the project related discussions. Prof. Govind R. Kadambi, Pro Vice Chancellor – Research welcomed Prof. Reddy on behalf of the University and gave a presentation about the University activities and best practices. Dr. H. M. Rajashekara Swamy, HoD, Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology introduced his team members and gave a presentation on ‘SSI Analysis of Structures for Nuclear Facilities’. After the presentation, Prof. G.R. Reddy gave valuable suggestions to improve the focus of project idea with more definitive deliverables for the proposed timelines.

The internship of St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering students (Russia) at MSRUAS

The internship of St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (SPSUACE, Russia) students at M.S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences from March 8 to March 19, 2016 has included attending classes and practical work at Civil Engineering department, visiting University laboratories, review of University projects and work and student project presentations. During the internship, students have visited construction sites, archaeological historical sites and cultural monuments and civil engineering industry companies based in Bangalore. There has been an extensive interaction with Indian professors and students. SPSUACE Dean and students have met with MSRUAS senior officials and discussed the outcomes of their visit.

On March 4 2016, in the framework of international collaboration with Russian educational institutions, MSRUAS Faculties and students had an interactive session arranged by Mr. H. S. Lohit, Associate Dean of Faculty of Art and Design, with Master program students of St. Petersburg Stieglitz Academy of Art and Industrial Design (Russia), Nikita Lebedev and Viktoria Lebedeva (Faculty of Design, Department of Industrial Design) who have presented their Academy students' works as well as their own portfolios. MSRUAS students got the chance to see the type of training and work students in St. Petersburg are doing and discuss various subjects in Industrial Design field. The mutual knowledge exchange has also included visiting MSRUAS Faculty of Art and Design laboratories and meetings with the Faculties: Mr. Pratheek Achar, Asst. Professor, Mr. Vidyanand Desai Asst. Professor and others.

Prof. Kevin Scott Paulson, University of Hull, UK visited M.S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (MSRUAS). The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. S.R. AKAIRA 2016

Akaira 2016, the Cultural Fest of MSRUAS was celebrated on 19 and 20 Feb 2016 in Peenya campus. The inaugural function was held on 19 Feb morning. Mr. M K Shankar, Co-Founder, OSAGE (Theatre Group) was the Chief Guest. The function began with Ms. Sai Pranati from FDS rendering the invocation song. Mr. Goutham N, Chief Coordinator of the Fest & Asst. Prof. FAD welcomed the gathering. Mr. Thomas from FAD briefed the audience about the various events which would be held during AKAIRA. This was followed by the traditional Lighting of Lamp. Mr. Chetan from FET introduced the Chief Guest who later addressed the gathering. The presidential address was delivered by Prof. Govind R Kadambi, Pro Vice Chancellor. The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Sanjuktha Bhat from FDS.

Altogether 26 events were held which included off stage events like Rangoli, Sketching, Collage, Cooking without Fire, Minute to Win It, Singing (Classical & non-classical) solo & group, Dub smash, Taboo, Pictionary, Debate, Quiz, Photography, Best out of Waste, Gaming, Short Film, Sell a Product and Extempore and on stage events like Mime, Anthakshari (Hindi & Kannada), Fashion Show, Air Crash, 60 Seconds to Fame, Dancing (Solo & group all forms), Mad Ads, Scavenger Hunt, Adapt to Tune. FET was declared the Overall Champion for the Rolling Trophy with FPH in second place and FHM&CT in third place.

The students from FPH performed a symphony while students from FET and FHM&CT entertained the audience with orchestra performances. The valedictory function was held on 20 Feb evening. Ms. Anusooya from FSH rendered the invocation song followed by Mr. Rajeev Prasad of FMC recounting the happenings of the Fest. Mr. Jerish from FPH introduced the Chief Guest Mr. C V Shivashankar, renowned director, producer, actor and lyricist of Kannada films who was felicitated by Dr. K Pushpanjali, Academic Registrar and Dr. H K Narahari, Dean FET and other dignitaries on the dais. This was followed by the address by Mr. CV Shivashankar, prize distribution, presidential address by Dr. K Pushpanjali and vote of thanks by Mr. Puneet from FHM&CT. The last programme of the Fest was the DJ Night which the students thoroughly enjoyed.

The Fest was sponsored by M/s Bhagirath Construction Company, Dell Computers, Khivraj Motors, Classic Study Circle, Dharwad, ACC Cements, New Ruchi Bhawan and Sri Vinayaka Caterers. Chancellor, Pro Vice Chancellor, Registrar and CFO, Deans and Academic Registrars of various Faculty and other University officers were present for the presentation. Post presentation, the committees visited different Faculty of the University, their laboratories, workshop, library and other infrastructure like hostel, gymnasium etc.

The committee also interacted with Teaching and Research Staff, Administrative and Technical staff and Students in separated sessions of half an hour each.

Parent’s Day Celebrated

The first Parent’s Day of MSRUAS was celebrated on Sunday 7th Feb 2016 in Peenya campus. The day began with touring of facilities in Peenya campus organized for Parents. The formal function began with rendition of invocation song by Ms. Anusooya, MSc. 2nd year Mathematics student and Lighting of the Lamp by parents, VC and other dignitaries on the dais. Later the Vice Chancellor addressed the gathering stating that parents are one of the most important stake holders in developing the University to be a premier educational institute, by their constructive criticism, feedback and suggestions. This was followed by interaction between parents and teachers, during which the parents sought clarifications on various issues such as the module system, the evaluation process, the syllabus, facilities and regarding activities other than academics in the University. The VC answered all the questions put forth by the parents who were satisfied with the replies, by the end of the session.

The afternoon session began with a discourse by Swamy Tyagishwaranandaji Maharaj of Ramakrishna Math, Halasur on the teachings of Swami Vivekananda related to Personality Development. This was followed by cultural programmes like Kathak dance by dental students Dr. Pragya, MDS 1st year and Ms. Sowmya, BDS 1st year, Singing by Hemant, B Tech 2nd year student, Mime by 2nd year Hospitality Management students – Rahul, Ajith, Krishna Menon, Vinuthna, Sohail, Faisal, Keshav and Chirag, a skit organized by Directorate of Transferrable Skills and Leadership Development titled “Shikshanave Sampattu”, performed by 2nd year B Pharmacy students – Sushma, Swati, Priyanka, Navya, Aditi, Ashwini, Manoj S, Manoj D, Manoj R and Parag.. The final programme and the highlight of the day was a Yakshagana performance by Dr. Baba Shankar Alva, Asst. Prof. FDS and his troupe consisting of internal and external artistes.

FDP on ‘How to Write Good Manuscripts and Publish in High Impact Factor Journals’

The Research Division had organised the FDP on ‘How to Write Good Manuscripts and Publish in High Impact Factor Journals’ for all the Faculty members of Peenya Campus. Prof. B.N. Raghunandan, IISc and Prof. Peter White, Coventry University, U.K. delivered the training in two separate sessions. Prof. Raghunandan highlighted the important issues of Publishing along with explaining the criticality of Impact Factor of the Journals. Prof. Peter White demonstrated the procedure to identify the best journals in a particular field with the available SCOPUS powered SCImago website and shared some good manuscripts.

Research and Innovation Council (RIC) Meeting

The Research and Innovation Council (RIC) meeting was organised by the Research Division. Our Hon’ble VC, Prof. S.R. Shankapal chaired the meeting. Further, PVC - Research, Deans and External Members from Industry and Academia attended the meeting. The progress and main activities of Research Division which included details of Doctoral Programme, Sponsored Research along with University Publications and Patents were presented to the committee. All the members participated actively and provided useful suggestions for the Research activities of the University.

Service to Society Program from MSRUAS

MSRUAS conducted service to society program on Jan 28th 29th & 30th 2016 as part of its academic calendar schedule. A total of 33 teams from all the faculties participated in it. Each team consisted of around 30 students and staff. Most of the teams went to rural places in Bangalore rural, Chitradurga, Mandya, Ramanagara, Chickkaballapur districts. A few teams conducted it in the city.

The activities ranged from visiting schools, orphanages, old age homes for dental and health checkups, creating awareness on personal hygiene among women, malnutrition among women and oral hygiene and importance of nutritious diet. The school children were given a brief of avenues after 10th and 12th standard, importance of computer literacy, awareness about team work, time management and coordination, scholarships from various societies and government, environment and waste generation, reducing waste and re-usage of waste, creation of artworks/new products using waste paper and plastic bottles, self-defense for girls, importance of physical fitness and sports, personality development and yoga for good health. Quiz, memory games, dance and painting competitions were conducted in the school. The team members planted saplings, helped clean the school premises, PHC, Anganwadi.

The villagers were informed about the use of internet for the benefit of farmers, rainwater harvesting and eco conservation, use of clean water, environmental hazards of using plastics, simple methods of garbage disposal, simple home remedies for common ailments, instill civic sense in the minds of people, awareness about government schemes for the under privileged. Seeds were distributed to households for creating kitchen gardens. Cultural programs, street plays and skits were performed during the evenings as part of entertainment for villagers.

Traffic management and survey was conducted in important junctions of the city, women travelers were informed about safety measures to be taken while travelling, at Yeshwantpur Railway Station.

Workshop for Ph.D. Scholars by Prof. Peter White, Coventry University, U.K.

Research Division organized a Workshop for Ph.D. scholars (2015-Batch) at MSRUAS Peenya Campus on “How to Formulate Research Problem and Pursue Research”. Prof. Peter White, Emeritus Professor, Coventry University, U.K. briefed the scholars on the key considerations and challenges to formulate the Research Problem. Specifically, detailed approach to solve the Research Problem from application perspective was highlighted. In addition, identification of the Research project along with questions to be considered was addressed. The workshop was well-received by the Ph.D. scholars. Their enthusiasm and keen interest in Research were evident through the follow-up interactions with the Professor after the sessions.

Visit by Dr. V. Prakash, Distinguished Scientist of CSIR-INDIA, Mysore - "Interaction with Multi-Disciplinary Teams to Arrive at Contemporary Research Topics in Pharmaceutical Sciences at MSRUAS"

Dr. V. Prakash, Distinguished Scientist of CSIR-INDIA, Mysore visited M.S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (MSRUAS). The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. S.R. Shankapal, had organised an interactive session with Dr. V. Prakash by bringing together Professors from MSRUAS and Doctors from M.S. Ramaiah Medical College (MSRMC) along with M.S. Ramaiah Indic Centre for Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine (MSR-ICAIM) to explore the possible research collaborations. In particular, renowned doctors from MSR group like Prof. Shivamurthy, Dr. Sriranjini and Faculty members from Pharmacy, Dental, and Hospitality Management of MSRUAS participated in the interactive session. The participants gave a presentation on challenges and grey areas in their respective domain. Dr. V. Prakash gave a useful research directions and suggestions for individual researchers to continue their work from application and societal perspective. In the post-lunch session, Dr. V. Prakash delivered a guest lecture on patenting, publications and ethical practices in research. The guest lecture was attended by Ph.D. and post-graduate students of MSRUAS as well.

Staff Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament Conducted

The 2nd staff tennis ball cricket tournament was conducted on 19th Jan 2016 in MSR ground. A total of seven teams participated namely University office, FDS Teaching Staff, FDS Non-teaching Staff, Workshop, Techno Centre, MSRUAS Bulls 1 and MSRUAS Bulls 2 teams. The tournament was inaugurated by Mr. Kiran, Physical Education Director, MSRIT. Dr. BV Sreenivasa Murthy, Dean FDS and Dr. Silju Mathew, Associate Dean FDS were the other dignitaries on the dais. The preliminary matches were played on knock out basis followed by the semifinals and final. Last year’s winners MSRUAS Bulls 1 team was given a bye. The matches were played on 8 overs a side basis. The workshop team were the winners and the MSRUAS Bulls 1 team were the runners. Both the teams were presented with rolling trophies, certificates and medals. The awards for Best Batsman, Best Bowler and Best All Rounder was swept by Mr. Chiranjeevi of the Workshop team. A special thanks to Gaurav, Faheem, Aditya Jayan, Aditya Govind and Sreekanth all 3rd year BDS students for officiating and score keeping all the matches.

Mr. Nikolay N. Katargin, Attache of the Russian Consulate in Chennai has visited the University on 7th and 9th of January 2016. Consulate plays an important role in assisting the prospective academic collaboration with Russian organizations.  He has met with first officials, Dr. S. R. Shankapal, Vice-Chancellor and Mr. N. C. Visit by Prof. Owen Carmichael, Pennington Biomedical Research Center, LA - “Interaction with Multi – Disciplinary Academic Teams to Arrive at Contemporary Research Topic in Bio-Medical Sciences”

Prof. Owen Carmichael, Director – Biomedical Imaging Center, Pennington Biomedical Research Center, Baton Rouge, LA visited M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (MSRUAS). The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. S.R. Shankapal, had organised an interactive session with Prof. Owen Carmichael by bringing together Professors from MSRUAS and Doctors from M. S. Ramaiah Memorial Hospital (MSRMH) to explore the possible research collaborations. In particular, renowned doctors from MSR group like Dr. R. Srinivasa, Dr. A. S. Hegde, Dr. Anirudh, Dr. Vinay Prabhu, Dr. Nanda Kumar and others actively participated for the interaction session. The participants gave a presentation on challenges and grey areas in their respective domain and attended the workshop delivered by Prof. Owen Carmichael on the research directions of Biomedical Sciences. The Professor also visited Radiology, Neuro-Sciences Laboratories at the MSRMH and Engineering Sciences Laboratories at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, MSRUAS Peenya Campus.

  • Ramanagara trekking

Trekking to Ramanagara Conducted

A one day trek and adventure sports at Ramanagara was conducted by Directorate SPWCA on 8th November 2015. A total of 46 students and 7 staff members participated in it. The trekking was organized in association with Ascent Adventure Club, Bangalore who provided the equipment for the various activities. It included rock climbing, rappelling and zip line. A bus was arranged to pick the participants from both the campuses and take them to Ramanagara and back. All the participants thoroughly enjoyed the outing and had a good time.

MSRUAS Students Visited St. Petersburg State University for Internship

M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences have sent seven students/group of students to undertake the internship at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering from October 19, 2015 until November 4, 2015: Abhaya Kiran Bijjal, Anil Kumar Srinivas, Akshayakumar Veeresh Hanagodimath, Manish Haveri, Mohammed Salman, Niteesh Halagatti, Yogish Lakshminarayana.  Students have attended various classes and participated in lab workshops, have visited many significant civil infrastructure sites in St. Petersburg and surrounding area.

Delegates from R&D team of ABB – Nelamangala Unit visited MSRUAS Peenya Campus to discuss regarding capabilities and collaboration opportunities to pursue high-end research. Prof. S.R. Professor - FMC) participated in a conference organised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific Cultural Organization(UNESCO) and International Multidisciplinary Research Foundation (IMRF) on 9th and 10th October,2015 at Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India. Fresher's Day - 2015

Fresher’s Day for the under graduate students of the University was celebrated in Peenya campus on Saturday 5th September 2015. The program began with an invocation from Ms. Roopa S. Talikoti, of B.Tech.(ECE) 1st year. Pro VC (SEG) Prof. Govind R. Kadambi’s addressed the gathering followed by the Deans and 2nd year students of all faculties welcoming the fresher’s and the fresher’s giving their expectations. Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ms. Suman of 2nd year BHM. Ms. Jyotsna and Ms. Prateeksha Bhat, B Design students of 2nd year performed the role of MCs.

Cultural programs like singing, dancing, mime and instrumental was performed by enthusiastic students from both first and second year. It was well received by the huge crowd of students and staff of the University. A total of 16 entries were received for the various cultural programs. A contest to crown Ms. and Mr. Fresher was held. The theme was ethnic with warm colors like shades and tints of red, yellow, purple and orange. Ms. Aishwarya Nair from FPH was declared Ms. Fresher and Mr. Suraj from FPH was declared Mr. Fresher. Other awards presented include Silent Soul to Mr. Chiranjith (B Tech, Civil), Blabber Mouth to Mr. Vimal, Winning Smile to Ms. Syeeda Arsheen (B Pharm) and Womanizer to Mr. Umair (BHM). Filler events like Air Crash and Sell Your Product were also held.

The Kerala State Higher Education Council Delegation led by Prof. C. I. International Day of Yoga Celebrations

International Day of Yoga was celebrated in MSRUAS. The events organized included demonstration of various Asanas by Yoga Master Acharya Shri Ashutosh Roushan from Yoga Faculty of MSR Indic Centre, exhibition on various Yoga postures and an essay writing competition on “Contribution of Yoga in Maintaining Health”. The program began with Omkara followed by Pawan Muktasana, and various asanas in standing, sitting, lying down on back and lying down on tummy postures. Simultaneously a brief description on the health benefits of the various asanas was also explained by the Yoga Master. It ended with pranayama, shavasana and Shanti Mantra. Staff from all the faculties of the University participated in the Yoga Day celebrations. Prizes were distributed to the best yoga performers (Ms. Hema Kadam stood first, Prof. Neena Joshi stood second and Dr. MR Srinivasan stood third) and essay writers (Mr. Vikram D first, Mr. Dayananda DB second and Ms. Hema Kadam third). Health snacks and drinks was distributed to all the participants.

Guest Lecture and Exploratory Meet on CODATA by Prof. S. Ganesan

Prof. S. Ganesan, RAJA RAMANNA FELLOW of the DAE & Professor, Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) & Scientific Consultant to the office of the Principal Scientific Advisor (PSA) to GOI, Delhi & Member, CODATA of Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi visited MSRUAS on 18 and 19 June 2015. A Guest Lecture had been organised at Peenya campus on “Perspectives and Challenges in Generic Aspects of Nurturing Data Science”. Blood Donation Camp


“Blood is lifeline and its value is only recognized when we are in need of it to save lives of our dear and near”

M S Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences stands apart for being devoted towards community service. In this regard, the Directorate of SPWCA in association with its faculties of Gnanagangotri campus and NSS unit organized Blood Donation Camp on 31st March 2015. The programme was inaugurated at 10 AM in the presence of Dr. Nandakishore, Blood Bank Officer, MSRMH, Deans of Faculty of Dental Sciences, Faculty of Hotel Management, Director of Admissions, Director of SPWCA, NSS Unit, Media, Team from Blood Bank at M S Ramaiah Memorial Hospital, Staff, Students and Donors from the Faculties of Dental Sciences, Pharmacy, Hospitality Management and Catering Technology.

The coordinators of FDS Dr Shivakumar K V, Dr Kranti Reddy and Dr Pallavi H N, and Administrative Registrar Mr. Gopala Krishna along with Head HSG, SPWCA Mr. HS Srikishen meticulously planned the event for its smooth and hassle free functioning. The contributions made by Mr. Dayananda DB, Manager, Sports HSG, Mr. Sundara Sarvanan, Asst. Prof. FPH and Mr. Mruthyunjaya Pagad, Asst. Prof. FHM&CT is also greatly appreciated. The response was overwhelming with about 170 enthusiastic staff and students of MSRUAS, Gnanagangotri campus voluntarily coming forward and donating blood. The program was a grand success and concluded at 4.30 PM.

Visit by St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Russia

As part of International collaboration, a delegation from St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Russia has visited MSRUAS. The visit was facilitated by Professor and Head of Department of Civil Engineering Dr. H. M. Rajshekar Swamy. Dr. Lidiia Kondratyeva, Head of Structural Mechanics Division at SPSUACE has given a talk on "The overall stability of high-rise building."   Ms. Alena Vedernikova, gave a presentation about SPSUACE. They also visited the Bengaluru Metro Construction site for the interchange station in Majestic, Bengaluru to study the construction process. A series of interactions were held between Russian delegates and MSRUAS faculty members with the focus on research and common areas of expertise as well as prospective collaboration..

Visit by Consulate General of Canada, Bengaluru

The Directorate, SPWCA in association with the Consulate General of Canada in Bengaluru conducted a general information session about study, work, and permanent residence opportunities in Canada in Peenya campus on 25th March 2015. The presentation showcased the new Express Entry permanent residence program. The session was followed by an opportunity to interact with Ms. Sarah Finall, Consul and Immigration Program Manager and Ms. Iris Lui, Consul. About 200 post graduate students from both the campuses attended the session.

Visit to Orphanage

As a part of MSRUAS NSS activity,  a visit to “ Saraswathi Educational and Charitable Trust at Mathikere, Bangalore was organized  on 21st March 2015 under the coordination of Dr. Sharmila Suresh, Asst. Prof. FSH and Mr. Umesh, Asst. Prof, FET.  The objective of the visit was to provide food for children (orphans) on Yugadi. A special thanks to all team members who voluntarily contributed for the food expenses.  A total of Rs. 8000/- was collected which helped to  provide for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.

An enthusiastic team of 10 members which included staff and student volunteers entertained the kids, served food and snacks and played with them. It was really a  heart touching moment as they spent some memorable time with them.

Special thanks to Dr. Sharmila Suresh for taking lots of interest and initiative for making the visit successful. She  voluntarily brought gifts and fancy items and distributed amongst children and supporting staff(care takers).  The roles played by Mr. Anand G S, Manager, Hostels & Cafeteria and  Mr. Chandru P Kulkarni, Residential Warden is appreciated along with students, Lohith,  Srideep( M.Sc.AE FT-13), Pranesh( Research scholar),  Priya Baheti, Komal Kumari, Parthasarathy, Vikranth Nayak, Shanmukh Kumar( B.Tech)  for their active participation and having made this visit a grand success.

Gymnasium Centre Inauguration

Gymnasium center of Gnanagangothri campus of MSRUAS was inaugurated on 18 March 2015 in the basement of Faculty of Dental Sciences by Prof. Abby Mathew, Dean - FHM&CT in the presence of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. S. R. Shankapal, staff and students. The Deans of FDS & FPH Dr. B. V. Sreenivasa Murthy & Prof. V. Madhavan respectively graced the occasion. Other notable dignitaries who attended the inauguration include Dr. Vibha Shetty, Director - TLLL, Dr. Silju Mathew, Academic Registrar - FDS, Mr. Gopala Krishna, Administrative Registrar - FDS.

MSRUAS First Anniversary Celebrations - Day 2

Second day of the 1st Anniversary celebrations of M.S.Ramaiah University of Applied sciences, Dr A.S.Kiran Kumar, Chairman, ISRO who was the chief guest at the programme, delivered a Prestigious Lecture on India in Space Age

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. A.S.Kiran Kumar, Chairman, ISRO explained the facets of the INDIAN SPACE PROGRAMME. This included Space Exploration, Advanced Space Systems, Satellite Navigation, Satellite Communication, launch Vehicles, Space Commerce, Earth Observation and Space Applications. He also mentioned to the cheering crowd the accomplishments of ISRO including 119 missions, 72 space crafts and launching of 40 satellites from 19 countries.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman ISRO also emphasised on the role of stellites in Rural Development, Mining, Urban Development, Home Affairs and Emergency Services. He also spoke on Tele – Education which at current covers 5000 interactive classes and there are more than 51000 receive only terminals. He also told the gathering on the Tele- Medicine which covers 384 Hospitals and treats upwards of 1 Lakh patients annually. MSRUAS on the occasion of its first anniversary also signed MOU with Palladion Network (P) Ltd to provide Cyber Security and Information Assurance programmes for it Post Graduate students. The programme also includes a nine month internship with Palladion Network (P) Ltd for the students.

“The market for cyber security professionals is large and the demand is growing much faster than the average IT job. While the need for cyber security professionals is huge, the industry readiness among students who pass out from such courses is lacking. Our partnership with M.S. Ramaiah will enable their curriculum on Cyber Security and Information Assurance with the latest industry developments and also have on-going engagement to bridge this gap,” said Rajat Mohanty, CEO and Co-Founder of Paladion Networks.

MSRUAS signed MOU with Micro Labs Ltd for collaboration in Drug Research and Development. Speaking on the occasion CA. N. C. Shekar, Registrar and CFO, MSRUAS said “Faculty of Pharmacy and Micro Labs Ltd have entered into a MOU to develop formulation for improving existing products and developing new products and formulation. The Faculty members of MSRUAS will be offering Consultancy Services to Micro Labs Ltd and other Pharmaceutical Companies for their technical requirements.”

MSRUAS First Anniversary Celebrations - Day 1

On 18th of March 2014, the University was formally lanuched by Padmavibhushan Dr. Anil Kakodkar, former Chairman, Atomic Energy Commision, GoI. To commemorate this occasion MSRUAS has orgnised 3 day events from 16th March to 18th March 2015 at M S Ramaiah Memorial Hospital Auditorium.

On the occasion of the first anniversaryinaugurated two new research centres. An Oral Cancer Research Centre and Biomaterial Research Centre.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Debanik Roy, Chief Programme, Coordinator, Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences, BARC, Mumbai said “Pursuing research will take universities to the next level. I urge today’s youngsters to pursue research in critical areas for the benefit of the society.”

Dr Cheong Sok Ching, Secretary of dentistry at University of Malaya while inaugurating the Oral Cancer Research Center said “India is the capital of Oral Cancer with 80000 cases being reported in a year. Research in Oral Cancer is crucial and is needed in a country like India”

Dr. Bikramjit Basu, Materials Research Center, IISc inaugurated the Biomaterial Research Center. Speaking on Translational Research, Dr Bikramjit Basu said “There is a huge scope for Bio – Material Research and Engineering Colleges need to introduce biology as a subject in their curriculum.”

“MSRUAS is a university focused on research. We believe in outcome based curriculum which gives the student an opportunity to put in practise the theories he learns in the classroom. The opening of two new research centres is a part of our commitment to research.” -Prof S.R. Shankapal

MSRUAS Teams up with PACE Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education

M.S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (MSRUAS) has associated with the prestigious PACE Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education by launching the new "PACE Design Studio" in its campus .MSRUAS is the fourth institution in India to participate in the PACE Program and this association will benefit over 800 students.

PACE Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education is a collaborative corporate effort of GM, Auto Desk, Hewlett-Packard, Oracle and Siemens PLM Software. Founded in 1999, PACE supports 65 leading academic institutions in 12 countries through the in-kind contribution of computer-based engineering tools. PACE provides Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) related software and hardware to renowned institutions worldwide.

The launch of the PACE Design Studio has officially commenced the PACE program in the university and the PACE Tools are available to students and faculty. MSRUAS PACE Centre has received an in-kind contribution of engineering and design software and hardware valued at over Rs 234 Crore from several PACE Partner companies including General Motors (GM), Autodesk, HP, Siemens PLM Software and Oracle.

The new PACE Design Studio will benefit students enrolled in various streams such as Art and Design, Automotive, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering. PACE will helps students develop and improve their product design and development capabilities, collaboration and soft skills, design experience and research strengths. Through curriculum enhancement and real-world experience, PACE will prepare students with practical skills they need for their professional careers.

Global collaboration skills are a key element of the PACE experience. This program will open up avenues for students to network with other participating universities and will also allow them to participate in intercollegiate competitions.

Dr. Ranjana Sarma, Grant Adviser, Wellcome Trust – DBT India Alliance delivered a guest lecture on New Initiatives for Clinicians and Public Health Researchers. Dr. Sarma also highlighted on various funding schemes available for pursuing Sponsored Research. The guest lecture was attended by Research Professors of Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Dental Sciences and Faculty of Science and Humanities.

NSS Blood Dontaion Camp

As part of NSS activities a Blood Donation Camp was organized in Peenya campus on 20th Feb 2015 in association with Blood Bank of MS Ramiah Memorial Hospital headed by its Chief, Dr. Nanda Kishore who also inaugurated the Camp. Prof. Ashok C Meti, Academic Registrar, FET graced the occasion. A total of 147 persons including students and staff donated blood. The atmosphere in the Camp was lively and there was great enthusiasm amongst the donors. All the donors were provided with refreshments and certificates handed over. Student and staff volunteers worked in coordinated manner to ensure smooth functioning of the camp. A special thanks to Mr. Umesh S, Asst. Prof. FET and Chief Coordinator for having organized the Camp successfully.

Top Prize at a National Level Design Competition

Mr. Parasuraman Kannan, Masters’ Student of Product Design has won the top prize at a national level design competition  - The Battle of Design Projects competition in Product Design as part of the PUNE DESIGN FESTIVAL 2015 where students from various design schools from all over the country had participated.

Mr. Parasuraman was felicitated on the 7th of February with the award for his project - “Easy Walker- An Ambulatory Aid for Physiotherapy Patients Undergoing Rehabilitation”

It is indeed a proud moment for our University.

FHMCT Showcased

The Faculty of Hospitality Management and Catering Technology of MSRUAS organized a day long culinary n cultural extravaganza, titled “FHMCT SHOWCASED” at its campus on 6th February 2015.

This event was organized to showcase the talents of the students of FHMCT and to unite all the faculty of MSRUAS for a day of culinary competitions and festivities including flower decorations, mock tail preparations, flair bartending, cake decoration, vegetable carving, table laying and napkin folding.

The culinary competitions of the day were thrown open to the impatient teams of enthusiastic gourmets, who had come in large numbers with a lot of anticipation. The culinary delights to be prepared by these teams were kept a secret as each team was given a mystery ingredient. The teams were mentored by students of FHMCT.

As a part of this event, there was a demonstration of authentic Italian dishes by Chef Armando di Filippo, the Italian Chef from Move n pick. There was also a wide variety of cheese and wines on display. Lluvia Bakery displayed its deliciously baked organic products. The products were also sampled by the assembled audience.

An awareness workshop on food adulterants was conducted. The house keeping department of FHMCT demonstrated a mechanism of safe and hygienic method of garbage disposal.

The Brand Ambassador of Baccardi, Mr. Harinath gave an insight into the various methodologies involved in making cocktails. The most awaited event of the evening was a demonstration by Mr. Rohan Carvalho of Bar Square who demonstrated his flair bartending skills. Monish, a VIII semester student of FHMCT mesmerized the gathering with his amazing flair bartending skills.

The festivities culminated late in the evening with the announcement of winners in the cookery competition and the first prize was won by the team comprising Dr. Bhavya, Dr. Ashwini, and Dr. Pushpanjali. The winners and the first and second runners-up were awarded gift vouchers by The Sheraton, Vivanta by Taj and Marriott Fairfield.

HAT and Chef Competition

Faculty of Hospitality Management and Catering Technology, M.S.Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, were declared the overall “Champion of Champions” in the prestigious Inter-Collegiate Hotel Management Skill Competition-Chef Competition and Hotel Ability Test jointly organised by the Taj Group of Hotels and Christ University held in Jan 2015.

This event, considered the most prestigious competitions of the country was introduced in the year 1995 for Hotel Management Students at intercollegiate level. The Taj Group of Hotels has been providing expertise, guidance, judging parameters, certificates and trophies. This event attract the reputed colleges of India namely Welcomegroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration-Manipal, Welcome Academy of Culinary Arts-Manipal, Culinary Academy of India-Hyderabad, Institute of Hotel Management- Hyderabad, Institute of Hotel Management-Bangalore, International Institute of Hotel Management–Bangalore, Army Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology-Bangalore.

Apart from winning the 1st prize in HAT Comp, Brand Buzz and Quiz, FHMCT also got prizes in Culinary Competition, Hotel Technique, House Keeping Competition and the Best Manager Competition and was declared the overall “Champion of Champions” of the entire event.

The 6 competitors of FHMCT (MSRUAS) who participated in this competition and brought the trophy are Shelly Jacob, Madhusudhan Kashyap, Varunraj, Abhiram, Kartik Prabhu and Vishwesh Ramesh.

The trophy was given away at a valedictory ceremony presided by executives of Taj Group and well attended by Industry Professionals.

The second Research and Innovation Council (RIC) meeting was organised by the Research Division. Our Hon’ble VC, Prof. S.R. Shankapal chaired the meeting. Further, PVC-SEG, Deans and External Members from Industry and Academia attended the meeting. The progress and main activities of Research Division which included details of Doctoral Programme, Sponsored Research along with University Publications were presented to the committee. All the members participated actively and provided useful suggestions for the Research activities of the University.

Research Workshop for Ph.D. Scholars

Research Division organized a Workshop for Ph.D. scholars (2014-Batch) at MSRUAS Peenya Campus. Prof. Peter White, Prof. Gurmail Singh and Prof. Eugene Lai from U.K. briefed the scholars on the key considerations and challenges to formulate the Research Problem. Specifically, detailed approach to solve the Research Problem from application perspective was highlighted. In addition, identification of the Research project along with questions to be considered was addressed. The workshop was well-received by the Ph.D. scholars. Their enthusiasm and keen interest in Research were evident through the follow-up interactions with the Professors after the sessions.

SAB & PAB Meeting

The Subject Assessment Board (SAB) and Programme Assessment Board (PAB) meeting was held on 14th & 16th January 2015 respectively at University House.

Staff Cricket Tournament

MSRUAS conducted tennis ball cricket tournament for its staff on 14th Jan 2015 in MSR grounds. Seven teams namely, Workshop, FET+FAD+FMC, FDS, FHM&CT, SPWCA, Training and University Office participated in the tournament with great enthusiasm.

The inauguration ceremony was held at 9.00 AM. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Prof. Govind R Kadambi, Pro VC SEG. Prof. Abby Mathew, Dean FHM&CT & Prof. Neena Joshi, FHM&CT conducted the draw for the matches which was played on 8 overs a side basis with a maximum of 3 overs for each bowler. Altogether 6 matches were played. FHM&CT team got good support from their colleagues who had come to cheer them. The team from FET+FAD+FMC were declared the winners while the team from Workshop were the runners up. Both the teams were presented with trophies along with trophies for best batsman (Mr. Chiranjeevi, Workshop), best bowler (Mr. Chiranjeevi, Workshop) and best all-rounder (Mr. Chiranjeevi, Workshop). Lunch was organized for all the participants. The tournament was a great success. There was demand for more such tournaments in other sports also for both men and women.

Indoor games facilities at Gnanagongothri Campus was inaugurated by our honourable Vice-Chancellor Prof. S.R. Shankapal at 4.15 PM on 26th December 2014.
The facilities are available at Faculty of Dental Sciences building.

Group Project Exhibition - 2014

The Group Project Exhibition of final year M.Sc. Engineering students of FET and FAD faculties was organised at Peenya Campus, The exhibition was inaugurated by Shri. P. Ramadas Managing Director – ACE Manufacturing Systems. Chief Guest Shri Ramadas advised the students to be innovative in their work and advised them to have passion in whatever the work they do and apply mind body heart and soul to achieve excellence in their work. Dr. S. R. Shankapal Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Presided over the function.

21 group projects were displayed by the enthusiastic students. Most of the projects were appreciated by Chief Guest and visitors.

Inauguration of User Oriented Postgraduate Course (UoPC) for Bangalore Integrated System Solutions(BiSS)

Faculty of Engineering Technology, MSRUAS launched its first User oriented Postgraduate Programme (UoPC) for Bangalore integrated System Solution (BiSS) on 5 Dec 2014. BiSS has sponsored 18 engineers for this customized programme leading M.Tech in Engineering Design and Technology Management. This programme is offered in part time mode.

Dr. S R. Shankapal, Vice Chancellor, MSRUAS inaugurated the programme on 5 Dec 2014 at FET campus, Peenya. Dr. Murali Mohan, Advisor, R&D, BiSS, Mr. Somayya Ammanagi, Head, R&D, BiSS graced the occasion.

Inauguration of MSRUAS - MSME Technology Product Incubation Centre

M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences inaugurated its MSRUAS – MSME Technology Product Incubation Centre – 20th October 2014.

M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (MSRUAS), in association with the Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME, Government of India has established this Technology Product Incubation centre under the NMCP scheme ‘Support for Entrepreneurial and Managerial Development of SME’s through Incubators’.

Through financial support from Ministry of MSME, MSRUAS would provide the means & resources – the wings and landing gear, to develop truly innovative technology ideas by entrepreneurs and mould them to take off as a micro or small industry, beneficial to the society.

Mr. Nagendra Prasad, Director Technocenter, MSRUAS welcomed the gathering. Prof. S. R. Shankapal, Vice Chancellor, MSRUAS gave the key note address. The Chief Guest for the function was Sri S. N. Rangaprasad, Director, MSME Development Institute, Bangalore. Other guests included Sri K. Sathianandan, General Manager, SIDBI, Sri B. P. Shashidhar, MSME Chairman – FKCCI and Ex-President – KASSIA. Experts from various other associations like ELCIA, CLIK were present for the function.

It was really a very happy moment for the University to incubate 07 incubates in the very 1st year of operation.

Board of Studies Meeting

A training session on some of the procedures and formats to be followed by Board of Studies and Board of Examiner members was held on 18th October 2014, Saturday at Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Peenya Campus.

Prof. S R Shankapal, Vice Chancellor of the University gave a detailed presentation about the University and the procedures and formats to be followed.

All Internal Members from MSRUAS and External Members (from various Colleges and Universities) along with Academic Registrar of MSRUAS attended the training session.

Inauguration of Ph.D. Programme - 2014 Batch

MSRUAS inaugurated its 1st Batch of Ph.D. programmes on 17th October 2014 at M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Peenya Campus. The inauguration was done by Prof. S. R. Shankapal, Vice Chancellor, M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences who also presided over the function. Prof. Govind R. Kadambi, Pro Vice Chancellor (SEG), MSRUAS welcomed the gathering. The audience comprised of Ph.D. scholars, Deans of Faculties and HODs of various Departments from different branches of Engineering and Technology, Dental Sciences, Pharmacy, Art and Design, Management and Commerce, Science and Humanities and Hospitality Management and Catering Technology. MSRUAS had a marvellous beginning of Ph.D courses with 40 students enrolled in various disciplines for the year 2014-15.

Staff Student Consultative Committee Meeting

The 1st Staff – Student Consultative Committee Meeting was held on 17th October 2014 at Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Peenya Campus.

All the Class Representatives from various Undergraduate Courses (B. Tech in Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Electronic & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering; B. Des., in Product Design, Visual Communication) attended the meeting and discussed matters related to:

Freshers Day Celebration

M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences conducted its 1st Fresher’s Day on 11th October 2014 in University House, New BEL Road. The Fresher’s Day was attended by students of first year and the second year of all Faculties, staff members of all Faculties and all University Officers. Prof. S. R. Shankapal, Vice Chancellor, MSRUAS welcomed the gathering and motivated the fresh students to achieve higher goals in life. He also congratulated for choosing M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences and assured to provide all support to the students.

The function began with ice braking session where the freshers were called to introduce themselves and say a few words about their experience so far. Following ice breaking sessions many dance programmes were showcased. Many fresh students as well as seniors performed solo songs and charmed the audience.

The main attraction of the function was DJ Arman who played popular Bollywood songs and made audience dance to his tunes.

Inauguration of Full-Time-2014 Batch of Postgraduate Courses

MSRUAS inaugurated its full time Postgraduate Courses on 19th September 2014 at M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Peenya Campus. The classes were inaugurated by Dr. Kishore Kumar, Scientist G and Associate Director – Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), Bangalore who was also the Chief Guest for the function. Prof. S. R. Shankapal, Vice Chancellor, M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences welcomed the gathering. The audience comprised of students, their parents and staff members from various branches of Engineering and Technology, Dental Sciences, Pharmacy, Art and Design, Management and Commerce, Science and Humanities and Hospitality Management and Catering Technology. MSRUAS also invited specialist from various domains to grace the function as Guests of Honour and motivate the students. The Guests of Honour included:

Visit of Shri. K.V.S.P. Rao, DSIR, New Delhi

Shri K.V.S.P. Rao, Scientist-G & Head (RDI), Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Govt. of India visited MSRUAS to discuss about importance of DSIR recognition and technology transfer of products. He also addressed the research staff across the various Faculties of the University and explained the importance of high-end research opportunities in the current scenario. He also visited laboratories of Advanced Learning Centre, Faculty of Dental Sciences and Faculty of Pharmacy.

Visit of Prof. S. Narasimha Murthy, The University of Mississippi, USA

Prof. S. Narasimha Murthy from Department of Pharmaceutics, The University of Mississippi, USA, visited our University to identify thrust areas for collaborative sponsored research. Prof. S. Narasimha Murthy and Faculties of MSRUAS presented research work carried out in Bio-Medical Engineering which was followed by discussions to stimulate thoughts and develop strategies for conducting research.

Part Time-2014 Batch M.Tech. Programme Inauguration

Inauguration of Part-Time 2014 batch of M. Tech. Programme was held on 17th May 2014 at Faculty of Engineering & Technology, MSRUAS, Peenya. Prof. H K Narahari, Dean, FET presented the Welcome address. Prof. S R Shankapal, Vice Chancellor, MSRUAS launched the M. Tech. Programme and delivered Inaugural address. Prof. C Gopinath, Acting Dean, FAD proposed the vote of thanks. The Pro-Vice Chancellors, Registrar & CFO, Academic Registrar and Faculty Members of FET also attended the programme.

M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences launching ceremony

Launch ceremony of M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences was held on 18th March 2014 at MSRIT auditorium. The University was launched by Padma Vibhushan Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Chairman, TIFAC, New Delhi. Dr. Prahlad Rama Rao, Vice Chancellor, Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, Pune delivered presidential address. Mr. Ravi Pandit, Chairman and Group CEO, KPIT Technologies Ltd. inaugurated the University House. Many foreign and Indian delegates were present at the function.

Guru Pooja of newly established 'M S Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences' was held on 3rd February 2014 at University House, New BEL Road, MSR Nagar, Bangalore-54 and unveiling the Logo and Board of the University was done by Chancellor of the Univesity Dr. M. R. Jayaram.
