Sports play a defining role in character development. They not only ensure your physical health, but mould your mental health as well. They teach you the importance of teamwork, the power of focus, the joy of team spirit, and the life-skill of sportsmanship.
Sports, therefore, are an integral part of the student experience at RUAS.
Competitions and Meets
Students are actively encouraged to participate in the numerous sports events conducted on a regular basis in the university.
Annual Athletics Meet
Students and faculty members participate enthusiastically in the university’s annual athletics meet. The one-day extravaganza includes various track and field events like short- and middle-distance sprints, relays, long jump, high jump, discus throw, shot put, etc.
The event — which often has renowned athletes as chief guests — begins with a formal inauguration with a march past, flag hoisting, torch run, and oath taking. Judges from outside the RUAS family are called in to officiate over the ceremony. At the end of the event, Best Athlete Male and Best Athlete Female are identified and awarded. Based on the number of points, an overall champion is also chosen.
Inter-Faculty Competitions
The University conducts inter-faculty competitions throughout the year. Held over the weekends, these events help keep the competitive spirit alive among students, and recognise athletic excellence with trophies, medals and certificates. Some of the events are held in the Gnanagangorthi Campus, while some are held in the Peenya Campus.
The competitions include various sports like cricket, football, table tennis, shuttle badminton, carom, chess, basketball, volleyball, kabaddi, and kho kho.

The teams are guided by expert coaches and sports managers who help students with regular practice as well as specialized coaching. The University also extends support to students by providing them with sporting gear, travel allowance and day allowance when they participate in outside tournaments.
Selection
Selection trials for the university teams are conducted in August and September every year to coincide with the beginning of the academic year. Talented new students with promise are given a chance to take the place of final year students who have graduated.
Selection trials are conducted in both campuses, and the best students are identified and inducted into the team. All team members are presented with the university jersey and are given the opportunity to represent RUAS in sports tournaments and competitions across the country.
Facilities
Our campuses are equipped with a range of indoor and outdoor sports facilities, including courts for basketball and tennis, common sports grounds, and indoor gyms.
