Woven Wonders: RUAS Fashion Design Students and Staff Shine at 11th National Handloom Day Celebrations - 2025

Students and staff from the Department of Fashion Design, Faculty of Art and Design, RUAS, participated in the 11th National Handloom Day Celebrations on August 7, 2025. The event was organized by the Department of Handloom and Textiles, Government of Karnataka.

Students performed a fashion show based on the theme “Draping Styles using Handloom Fabrics and Sarees” at the Karnataka State Government Employees Bhavan, Cubbon Park, Bangalore. Ms. Jyothi, IAS, Commissioner and Director of Handloom and Textiles, Government of Karnataka, along with other honorable state government dignitaries, recognized and felicitated all the weavers of Karnataka.

Handloom is more than just fabric—it is an identity, artistry, and empowerment woven into one. It embodies centuries of cultural storytelling, community strength, and the skillful touch of artisans who pass down their legacy thread by thread.

All B.Des. Fashion Design students, along with models from FET and FNS, and faculty from FAD, took part in the event. The celebration emphasized the role of handloom in preserving India's rich textile heritage and empowering local artisans. The diverse saree draping styles, integral to this heritage, offered a way to celebrate and showcase the beauty and versatility of handloom sarees. All the designers and models received appreciation certificates.
