Symposium on “Advances and Frontiers in Fluid Mechanics”
Symposium on “Advances and Frontiers in Fluid Mechanics” was organized by the Department of Aerospace and Automotive Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences on 25th of April 2025 at Ramaiah Technology Campus, Bengaluru. Fluid dynamics lies at the core of countless scientific and engineering challenges, influencing a vast spectrum of modern innovations and research. The subjects range widely from aerospace and automotive engineering to environmental sciences, biomedical flows, and energy systems. From optimizing aircraft design and enhancing aerodynamic performance to developing efficient propulsion systems and medical diagnostics, fluid dynamics serves as a unifying foundation across disciplines. This symposium served as a platform for the exchange of knowledge and ideas between leading experts from academia and research laboratories and students. The symposium featured expert talks in aerodynamics, computational fluid dynamics, experimental techniques, and biofluid mechanics. The symposium was inaugurated by opening remarks from Prof. Govind R. Kadambi, Pro-Vice Chancellor, and Prof. Sarat K. Maharana, Dean, RTC.
The first technical session was delivered by Prof. H. K. Narahari, formerly M S Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, on Challenges in Hypersonic Aerodynamics. Followed by Prof. G. K. Suryanarayana, Dayananda Sagar University who talked on Transonic Shock-wave Boundary Layer Interactions. Dr. Rangachari Kidambi, CSIR - National Aerospace Laboratories spoke on "New” Solutions in Free Streamline Flows Using Old Methods, concluding the first session. After a short break, the second session started with a talk from Prof. Vinay M. D. Prabhu, the Department of Radiodiagnosis at Ramaiah Medical College, titled From Carotid Bifurcations to Aortic Arches: A Fluid Dynamics Journey. The final talk was delivered by Mr. Naresh Kumar, CSIR–National Aerospace Laboratories on Verification and Validation of SU2 Code: Robust Test Cases Spanning Mach Regimes. The symposium concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Jayahar Sivasubramanian, the Head of Aerospace and Automotive Engineering.
Overall, the symposium proved to be highly productive, offering participants valuable insights into both the fundamental principles and applied aspects of fluid mechanics, along with recent advancements across this broad and dynamic field.
