Puff Off! RUAS Stands Against Tobacco
On the occasion of “World No Tobacco Day” the 2nd Semester MPH students organized event themed “Unmasking the Appeal – Exposing Industry tactics on Tobacco & Nicotine products” on 29th and 30th of May 2025 at FLAHS, RUAS.
The campaign commenced with a rally on 29th May, where students raised awareness among the public about the deceptive practices used by the tobacco and nicotine industry to target youth, during which students actively engaged with the community by distributing informative leaflets and pamphlets highlighting the harmful effects of tobacco and nicotine products, while also motivating individuals to quit the habit, emphasized the importance of preventive action and public education.
On 30th May, a thought-provoking guest lecture was delivered by Dr. Bindu Nambiar, Associate Professor, Faculty of Management and Commerce (FMC), RUAS. Her talk, titled “Industry Tactics on Tobacco & Nicotine Products – Implications on Youth in India,” shed light on the strategic manipulation by tobacco companies and the urgent need for counteraction through policy and education. Following the lecture, students actively took part in a series of creative and competitive events including Face Painting, Slogan Writing, Debate and E-Poster competition all of which revolved around the central theme. The participants displayed remarkable enthusiasm and insight, with the best entries receiving awards for their impactful messages.
The events culminated with a collective pledge to advocate for a tobacco-free generation, reaffirming RUAS’s commitment to public health leadership and youth empowerment.
