One-day student seminar on “Gas Turbine Propulsion: Innovations and Emerging Technologies”
A one-day student seminar on "Gas Turbine Propulsion: Innovations and Emerging Technologies" was held on 27th February 2026 at the Ramaiah Technology Campus, M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Bengaluru. The event was jointly organised by the Aeronautical Society of India – Bangalore Branch (AeSI-BB), the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), and RUAS, and saw enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and industry professionals.
The inaugural session commenced with the ceremonial Lamp Lighting, followed by the Welcome Address by Dr. B. S. Dayananda, Associate Dean, Ramaiah Technology Campus, RUAS. Dr. Manjunath S. Dalbanjan, Scientist 'E' at GTRE-DRDO and Honorary Secretary of AeSI-BB, introduced the AeSI-BB Student Seminar Series, outlining its vision and objectives. The Keynote Address was delivered by Dr. S. V. Ramana Murty, Director of GTRE and Chairman of AeSI-BB, who offered valuable perspectives on the latest advancements in gas turbine propulsion technology. The session concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Dr. Jayahar S, Head of the Department of Aerospace and Automotive Engineering, RUAS.
The technical programme featured nine invited talks with speakers drawn from premier institutions and organizations including GTRE-DRDO, the Indian Institute of Science, IIT Dharwad, CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories, Rolls-Royce, and the Aeronautical Development Establishment. The sessions covered a broad spectrum of topics including gas turbine architectures, hydrogen fuel cell technology, axial and centrifugal compressor design, aircraft propeller technology, propeller aerodynamics at low Reynolds numbers, combustor design, fuel injection systems, thermal management of military aero engines, and aircraft engine intakes and exhaust nozzles. Each talk was followed by an interactive question and answer session, encouraging active engagement between the speakers and the student audience.
The seminar also featured a Student Poster Competition. Amrutha K won first place, Shamyuktha Achar secured second place, and Kavana N claimed third place. The prizes were distributed during the valedictory session, presided over by Dr. M. Sivapragasam, who expressed sincere appreciation to all dignitaries, speakers, organizers, volunteers, and participants. The seminar served as a meaningful platform for nurturing aerospace engineering talent and fostering a deeper understanding of gas turbine propulsion systems among the student community.
