International Day of Drug Abuse 2025

On Thursday, 26th June 2025, Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (RUAS), and RUAS NSS in collaboration with the Bangalore City Police, observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse by organizing an awareness session on the Ill Effects of Drugs. The event saw enthusiastic participation from over 500 students.

Dr. Basappa Hugar, Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine, RMC, provided an insightful overview of drug abuse, while Dr. S.M. Manohari, Head of the Department of Psychiatry, RMC, addressed the topic “Psychoactive Substances – What Are They and Can They Harm Us?”

Renowned Kannada film and television actor Shri Gurunandan delivered an inspiring message, urging students to stay away from substance abuse. A virtual address was given by Sri Seemanth Kumar Singh, Commissioner of Police, Bangalore, emphasizing the dangers of drug use and the importance of awareness.

Inspector Girish B.P., Circle Inspector, Sadashivanagar Police Station, spoke on “Toxic Choices: How Drugs Wreck Lives and Invite Legal Action.” The session concluded with a student pledge to remain drug-free, followed by an Awareness Rally led by the Bangalore City Police.

The event highlighted the university’s commitment to promoting a healthy, informed, and drug-free campus environment.
