Hospitality Management Students Gain Real-World Design Insights at IKEA Field Visit

The Faculty of Hospitality Management & Catering Technology (FHMCT) at Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences organized an insightful field visit for its students to IKEA, Nagasandra, Bengaluru, on August 28, 2025. This hands-on session provided students with valuable exposure to the practical aspects of interior design and furniture.

The visit was led by Ms. Diljith, CRM Manager, and Mr. Tejas from IKEA. They guided students through various sections of the store, allowing them to observe different types of furniture and fixtures, as well as analyze color combinations and design aesthetics. This gave students a deeper understanding of how functionality and ambiance are enhanced through thoughtful interior planning.

The session went beyond observation by incorporating experiential learning. Students engaged in a syllabus-aligned activity where they worked in groups to identify products and match them with suitable color palettes. This interactive approach and direct engagement with IKEA staff enabled them to explore furniture manufacturing materials and their historical usage in design.

This visit successfully connected classroom concepts with real-world applications, equipping students with essential knowledge in furniture design and décor that is crucial for a career in hospitality management.
