Guest Talk on “Energy Efficient Smart Sensors in Structural Health Monitoring”

The Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (MSRUAS), Bengaluru, organized a Guest Talk on “Energy Efficient Smart Sensors in Structural Health Monitoring (SHM)” on 02 June 2026 at A-205 Seminar Hall, Ramaiah TC Campus. The session was delivered by Dr. Chandramouli S. V., Consultant (Structural, ART and SHM), Bengaluru, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from undergraduate students, postgraduate students, research scholars, and faculty members.

The expert talk focused on the significance of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) in ensuring the safety, reliability, and sustainability of civil infrastructure. The speaker highlighted the role of energy-efficient smart sensors, wireless monitoring systems, and advanced data acquisition technologies in enabling real-time assessment of structural performance. Various sensing technologies, including strain sensors, accelerometers, fiber optic sensors, piezoelectric sensors, and MEMS-based sensors, were discussed along with their applications in monitoring buildings, bridges, and other critical infrastructure.

An interactive discussion session provided participants with valuable insights into sensor deployment, wireless communication, energy harvesting techniques, research opportunities, and career prospects in smart infrastructure systems. The programme successfully enhanced awareness of emerging SHM technologies and their contribution to sustainable and resilient infrastructure development.
