Guest Lecture on “Exploring Furniture Styles and Color Harmony”
The Faculty of Hospitality Management & Catering Technology, Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, organized a guest lecture titled “Evolution of Furniture Design – From Traditional to Contemporary” on August 29, 2025, at IKEA, Nagasandra, Bangalore, for BHM students. The session was delivered by Ms. Diljith, CRM Manager, IKEA, who shared her expertise with students and faculty.
The lecture traced the evolution of furniture from traditional handcrafted designs influenced by culture to modern models shaped by industrialization, new materials, and changing lifestyles. Ms. Diljith emphasized sustainability, modularity, and multifunctionality as key trends in today’s market. She discussed various types of furniture and fixtures, design principles integrating ergonomics and aesthetics, and the use of board materials such as plywood, MDF, and particleboard. Global practices and material preferences were also highlighted, offering insights into how culture and innovation shape design worldwide.
The interactive session enriched students with historical perspectives, contemporary practices, and real-world applications.
