Dr. Mamatha G. Hegde Invited as Speaker for the ICSSR Seminar
Dr. Mamatha G Hegde, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Fashion Design, Faculty of Art and Design participated as one of the invited speaker for ICSSR Seminar - Punyashloka Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Special Call Women-Led Development Through Indigenous Knowledge and Craft Heritage. The event was held on 7 September 2026 in 801, Audi Block, School of Business and Management, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru. The seminar aim was to bring together experts to discuss the intersection of heritage preservation, indigenous weaving traditions, sustainable livelihoods, and women-led development. Dr. Mamatha G Hegde as a speaker shared her academic and research experience related to handloom weaving, natural dyeing, embroidery, costume designing, art etc. She also shred her experience of interaction with soldiers of Leh-Ladak and Saichen Base camp area i.e. requirements for special cold climate clothing, Experience of Hackathons organized by Ural Federal University, Russia, MSRUAS etc. She also said importance global level marketing for manufacturers or producers of local region. Nowadays it is very important to have Geographical indication tag for any product e.g.; Melukote Panche, Patteda anchu sarees of Karnataka. She also highlighted how women became entrepreneurs during the Industrial revolution period. Discussion focused on India’s craft, embroidery, and culture costume different states Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Garment and fashion design. Boutiques. Handloom weaving, Artifact s, bamboo art etc.
The event also had meaningful dialogue and knowledge sharing among faculty members, researchers, students, and practitioners.
