Overview

The M.Sc. Computational Biology and Bioinformatics program is a two-year program with a strong integration of bioinformatics, programming, statistics, and computational biology to solve complex biological problems.The courses offered provide training in High-Throughput Omics Analysis including hands-on learning in next- generation sequencing (NGS), metagenomics, comparative genomics, and systems biology. Students learn Advanced Al & Machine Learning in Biology by specialized coursework in machine learning, algorithms, modelling, and database development for biological data.

The program offers Research and Publication Experience through Group project and full- semester dissertation with manuscript preparation, preparing students for research careers and PhD programs.

Program Objectives

The M.Sc. Computational Biology and Bioinformatics program aims to equip students with knowledge and practical skills in genomics, proteomics, systems biology, data analytics, and computational Modelling. The program prepares graduates to address challenges in biotechnology, healthcare, drug discovery, and precision medicine through data-driven research and innovation, while providing a strong foundation for careers in academia, research organizations, and the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.

Dissertation and Publication

Students, under the guidance of the faculty research mentor will choose a research problem for the Dissertation work. After the work is completed, student will compile the work as a dissertation thesis. Students will also learn another form of academic writing by preparing a manuscript for publication either from the research work done by the student or a review on a chosen topic.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must hold Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields:

  • LifeSciences (Biotechnology/Bioinformatics/Biochemistry/Microbiology/Genetics/Food Technology/Botany/Zoology/ and related fields). Must have studied Mathematics as one of the courses in 10+2
  • Physical/Mathematical sciences (Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Statistics). Must have studied Biology as one of the courses in 10+2
  • Professional UG degree: B.E. / B.Tech. (Biotechnology/Bioinformatics / Computer Sciences and allied branches/Information Technology/Data Science/Biomedical Engineering, MBBS/BDS/B.Pharm/ B.Agri.

Candidates must have minimum 55% marks or CGPA equivalent aggregate from a recognized university.
