Overview

In the current era, the increasing complexities of healthcare and the heightened focus on patient safety globally have created a rising demand for pharmacists proficient in clinical practice areas such as medication reconciliation, patient counseling, and pharmacovigilance. These pharmacists play a vital role in managing medication therapy, ensuring appropriate drug use, and reducing the risk of adverse reactions. Their expertise in patient counseling helps enhance medication adherence and understanding, leading to better health outcomes. Additionally, pharmacists collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive care plans, addressing the multifaceted needs of patients with chronic and acute conditions. This advanced training is essential to meet the evolving demands of the healthcare system and improve overall patient care.

The Master of Pharmacy (M. Pharm) in Pharmacy Practice program addresses a critical need within the healthcare system by preparing pharmacists to play a pivotal role in patient care and excel in various aspects of clinical pharmacy and healthcare delivery. With a strong emphasis on patient care, research, and practical training, this program equips pharmacy professionals with the skills necessary to contribute effectively to the healthcare system and improve patient outcomes.

The students will undergo clinical postings in various clinical departments of Ramaiah Medical College Hospital and thereby receive experiential learning to enhance the clinical pharmacy skills. Postgraduate students will engage in clinical rotations across different departments at Ramaiah Medical College Hospital, gaining hands-on experience to improve their clinical pharmacy skills. This program addresess the evolving role of pharmacists in improving patient outcomes, making it ideal for those aspiring to contribute significantly to the advancement of pharmacy practice and patient centred health care delivery.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Graduates of B.Pharm degree from an Indian University established by law in India from an institution approved by Pharmacy Council of India and has scored not less than 55% of the maximum marks (aggregate of four years of B.Pharm).   
  • Admission selection for the university quota is based on RUAS AT scores and an interview process. GPAT and CUET-PG scores are also accepted. Additionally, candidates can secure admission through PGCET counselling.

International Competitions

Students can earn 1 – 3 credits by participating in the international competitions, or with a presentation in a conference or publication in a journal that wins awards. Students can earn additionally 1 – 3 credits through participation in international competitions through technical work.

Group Project

A group of 5 students can work on a project of an interdisciplinary nature and be constituted of members from across departments. Students are required to develop a report for assessment and demonstrate the working of the project. The IPR rights of all such work lies with the University only.

Project

Students can opt for an internship in industry, business or research organization. Alternatively, students can undertake a mini-project in the hospital or community requiring self-directed study that can be perused within the affiliated faculty. It is also necessary for the student to submit a report and make a presentation to the members of the panel constituted by the HoD for assessment.

Dissertation and Publication

There are five parts to this course, a dissertation and publication. Each student has to choose a relevant topic and work individually to write the dissertation. The topic needs to be approved by the committee constituted by HoD. Publication is a stage wherein dissertation work of the student is converted into a technical paper to be published in reputed conferences/​journals.

Teaching and Assessment

During each semester, students’ performance is assessed through Continuous Evaluation (CE) which includes teacher interaction, sessional examination and a Semester End Examination (SEE).

Students are awarded grades based on the marks scored.

The M. Pharm in Pharmacy Practice at MSRUAS is a postgraduate programme focusing on clinical pharmacy, patient care, hospital practice and evidence-based therapeutic decision-making.

Applicants must have a B. Pharm degree from a PCI-recognised institution with at least 55% aggregate marks and should have qualified in relevant entrance examinations, if applicable.

The total fee structure varies annually; typically, around ₹2.5 to ₹3 lakhs per year. It includes tuition, lab and other academic-related charges. Scholarships may be available.

The M. Pharm in Pharmacy Practice programme is of 2 years duration, divided into 4 semesters, including a research project and hospital-based practical training components.
