Dr. Soma Chaki

Professor and Dean – Faculty of Life and Allied Health Sciences

Dr. Soma Chaki is a Professor of Biotechnology and currently serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Life and Allied Health Sciences (FLAHS), RUAS. She brings over two decades of rich experience in research and academia. Dr. Chaki earned her PhD in Life Sciences from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. Her distinguished academic journey includes a Postdoctoral Fellowship from The Ohio State University, USA; a Junior Research Fellowship from the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science; and a prestigious fellowship from the Japan–India Collaboration Agency during her early doctoral studies. She has also qualified both NET and SLET.

Her key research interests revolve around Cell and Molecular Biology, Allergy and Immunology, Lectins, and Cancer Immunology, with specialized expertise in Molecular Biology, Immunology, and Proteomics. She believes that every contribution—big or small—holds value in the advancement of scientific knowledge. For her, the vast and often uncharted world of science fuels curiosity and intellectual pursuit, driving researchers to unravel the unknown and dispel the discomfort of ignorance. She therefore encourages her students to be active contributors to science in any capacity they find meaningful or needed.

As an academic leader, Dr. Chaki has been instrumental in driving the growth and excellence of FLAHS—overseeing scientific curriculum development, promoting impactful research, and fostering a thriving, collaborative environment aligned with the University’s strategic goals. Her unwavering commitment to academic integrity, research innovation, and student success continues to shape FLAHS as a hub for world-class scientific education and transformative research.
