Dr. Indira Ramarao formerly Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Sociology at the University of Mysore was the Past President of Indian Sociological Society. She is currently Visiting Professor, Dr.B.R. Ambedkar Chair, University of Mysore and is an invited faculty in the School of Social Sciences, Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Bangalore. She has been associated with many universities and research institutions across the country in the capacity of member of BOG, Visiting Fellow, and Scholar-in-Residence. Prof. R. Indira is a two-time Fulbright Scholar, four-time Shastri Fellow & a Senior Fellow of ICSSR. She has been a visiting faculty at Study India Programs of universities in US & Canada, has authored several books and articles in journals, edited volumes and newspapers both in English and Kannada and has been a contributor and editor to subject encyclopedias, dictionaries, journals, theme based books and translation projects and has been conferred literary awards and recognitions for her works on social issues. She has lectured extensively in state, national & international forums on issues of sociological concern.

- Columnist: Since 2002, I have been contributing fortnightly/weekly columns in regional and national Kannada dailies on social and gender issues.

- Gender Auditing: Conducting gender audit of educational institutions
- Organization of Gender Sensitization Workshops: Conducting and coordinating workshops concentrating mainly on gender sensitization and empowerment for student groups, elected women representatives, faculty and administrative staff of educational institutions, staff of corporate organizations and autonomous women’s groups.
- Designing and Hosting Capacity Development Workshops for the Academic Community: Planning and conducting workshops for building and honing research skills of young faculty, students and research scholars in research methodology, project management and evaluation, review of government reports, documentation and report writing.
