Dr. Vijayalakshmi S. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (RUAS), Bengaluru. She is an alumna of the university, having completed her B.Pharm and M.Pharm from Ramaiah. She obtained her Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from KLE College of Pharmacy, Bengaluru, and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Patent Law from NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad.
Before joining RUAS, she worked as a Research Associate at Analytica Chemie Inc, Bengaluru, in the Scientific Support Division of Research and Development, and later served as an Assistant Professor at East West College of Pharmacy.
Her expertise includes medicinal chemistry, synthetic route design, scientific literature retrieval using SciFinder and Reaxys, and patent searches related to active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), pharmaceutical intermediates, and impurity reference standards. She also has hands-on experience in in vitro anticancer research involving cell line studies carried out during her doctoral research at IBAB, Bengaluru.
Dr. Vijayalakshmi is actively involved in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students, including those enrolled in B.Pharm, Pharm.D, and M.Pharm programmes. She is committed to outcome-based education and adopts innovative teaching methodologies that promote student engagement and academic excellence. She has also guided student research projects and contributed to academic administration through student evaluation, mentoring, and laboratory management.
She plays an active role in institutional quality assurance initiatives and contributes to NAAC and NBA accreditation activities, supporting continuous academic and institutional improvement.
Her research interests include the design, synthesis, characterization, and biological evaluation of novel heterocyclic compounds and other new chemical entities with potential therapeutic applications, particularly in anticancer drug discovery. She is also a Registered Pharmacist with the Karnataka State Pharmacy Council.
