Dr. T Niranjana Prabhu

Professor and Associate Dean — Research & Innovation

Dr T. Niranjana Prabhu is a researcher, administrator, teacher and science communicator in Kannada par excellence. He has been the Head of the Chemistry Department at RUAS since 2014. He was the Academic Registrar for the Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences for five years (2014−2019) looking after examination and assessment for BSc and MSc programmes. He is involved in designing curriculum for undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes, and in formulating academic regulations along with preparing lecture notes for various courses. He is a member of the Board of Examiners and Board of Studies in Chemistry/​Polymer Science for RUAS and University of Mysore. His teaching proficiency fetched him the Best Teacher award at MVJ College of Engineering and a summer fellowship offer from Indian Academy of Sciences. More recently he was proffered the RAUS Annual Exemplary Award (2019 – 20) in the research category. His research interests lie in polymer composites, nanomaterials and wastewater treatment. He has contributed to publications in peer reviewed journals, presentations at national and international conferences besides being invited to talks at several institutions. He also supervises PhD scholars and postgraduate students. He is the Principal Investigator for a sponsored research project funded by LSRB-DRDO, Union Government of India and Co-Principal Investigator for a GEF-TDF funded project. He has received the Best Paper Presenter and Young Scientist awards from Swadeshi Vijnana Andolana – Karnataka and subsequently appointed as its Vice President. He is a Member of the Centre for Public Understanding of Science, which are involved in the propagation of science and technology in Kannada. He is also Member of a committee for drafting KSTA Policy Paper on Science Communication Policy (Focus on Karnataka).” He has published 5 science books in Kannada to promote greater understanding of science among the general public. Besides academics, he regularly interacts with village communities, schools and college students. His contribution to literature has been recognized by Kannada Sahithya Parishad, Bangalore who conferred on him the Prof D C Anantha Swamy Award for the book Nenapugala Suliyalli’ (a collection of poetry). He completed his MSc (Industrial Chemistry) from Kuvempu University, MTech (Chemical Plant Design) from NITK-Surathkal and PhD (Polymer Science) from University of Mysore. He has memberships in several professional bodies like The Catalysis Society of India, ISTE, SVAK, STRA and IAENG.
