About Us
The Faculty of Dental Sciences was earlier the M.S. Ramaiah Dental College and Hospital and was established in 1991.
The Faculty offers a 5-year undergraduate programme including one year internship leading to the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree. The Faculty also offers a 3-year postgraduate programme leading to the Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) degree and Doctoral research programme in all 9 specialities leading to the award of a Ph.D. degree.
The programmes and curriculum offered by the faculty adhere to norms prescribed by the Dental Council of India (DCI). The curriculum offered is? outcome based and helps students to develop critical thinking abilities and to imbibe relevant practical skills for a smooth transition from academics to real life work environment. Opportunities are provided for students to do their Observership in India or abroad depending upon their preference.

Our curriculum - in addition to adhering to the norms of the Dental Council of India, for overall development of student we offer Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses, Professional Core Electives, Open Electives. Additionally special care is taken to ensure that students receive rigorous practical training under the guidance of experienced faculty members.
Research is also promoted and students are encouraged to develop a scientific curiosity about their field of study. Students are exposed to research methodology so that they can take up group projects for development of products, equipment's, drugs, regenerative materials etc., which leads to publications, patents and research grants from sponsoring bodies like ICMR, DBT, VGST, SERB, STS etc., to name a few and kindle their innovative minds.
This multipronged approach to dental education ensures that, in addition to knowledge, our students are equipped with the skills necessary to navigate the uncertainty of the future.
They are moulded into independent thinkers, determined scholars, and competent healthcare professionals who prioritize the well-being of patients above all else. Alumni of our Faculty have become successful entrepreneurs, academicians and researchers in reputed organizations in India and abroad.
