About
The discipline of Prosthodontics aims not only at restoring and replacing the missing teeth and oro-facial structures but also meticulously preserves the health of hard and soft tissues for better quality of life for patients.
During the pre-clinical phase, students are taught to manipulate various dental materials, fabricate complete dentures, design cast partial dentures, and perform tooth preparations. The undergraduate students also learn by assisting faculty members and postgraduates during clinical procedures. The clinical phase includes training students to treat patients requiring complete or partial removable and fixed prosthesis, full mouth rehabilitations, surgical implant placement and restorations, intra-oral and extra-oral maxillofacial prosthesis, splints, and treatment of patients with temporomandibular joint disorders.
Additionally, students are also involved in the outreach activities of the department. The students have postings in rural centers and also participate in denture camps. One of the key projects is “Danta Bhagya” a scheme in agreement with the Department of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of Karnataka. In this scheme, free dentures are provided to elderly people who come below the poverty line (BPL) category. Research is not only encouraged but is actively promoted. The Department has undertaken sponsored research projects with organizations like DBT and ICMR. Thus, students can participate in numerous, cutting-edge research projects and gain a deeper understanding of their fields.
