About
The department of Data Sciences and Analytics offers programmes that aim to provide critical analytical training at the undergraduate level.
The emphasis is on research-based teaching, competency-based learning and an interdisciplinary approach using creative and interactive pedagogy.
The undergraduate program offered by the department is a four-year Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Hons. in Data Science and Analytics. The program aims to develop students' skills in statistics, data mining, data visualization, and programming. In the first two years, the curriculum focuses on math, statistics, and programming fundamentals and in the subsequent years on Database Management systems, AI, ML, Deep Learning, Cloud Computing.
Studying data science at the undergraduate level opens a wide range of career opportunities in various industries and includes Data Scientist, Data Analyst, Business Analyst, Data Engineer, and Data Visualisation Specialist, among others.
Ph.D. Opportunity
The department also offers a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program in Data Science and Analytics. The program is designed to train students to become experts in the field of data science and analytics through applied research across a broad spectrum of disciplines from basic science (e.g., Physics) to Social Sciences (e.g., public policy).
Highlights
- The Department of Data Sciences and Analytics arranged guest lectures, seminars, and workshops comprising of speakers from world premier universities and institutes. One such in-person event organised by the department is by eminent researcher Dr. Lorena Escudero Sanchez from Cambridge University, UK. It was an interdisciplinary lecture spread across the domains of medical imaging, cancer research, particle physics and artificial intelligence.
- The Department also organise interdisciplinary seminars to inculcate interdisciplinary knowledge sharing among students. Recently the Department of Phycology and the Department of Data Sciences and Analytics had organised a joint lecture by Dr. Swetha Ramdas from Centre for Brain Research, IISc.
