The laboratory primarily caters to the clinical and academic requirements of the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics and the Department of Prosthodontics, Crown and Bridge. It serves as an essential component in the training of undergraduate and postgraduate students while supporting patient care through the fabrication of precision dental restorations.

The laboratory is designed to facilitate the complete workflow involved in the fabrication of chrome cobalt prostheses, including removable partial denture (RPD) frameworks, metal copings, crowns, bridges, and other cast metal restorations. The facility provides students with hands-on exposure to contemporary laboratory procedures while ensuring the production of durable and accurately fitting prosthetic components.

The laboratory is equipped with a modern Induction Casting Machine, which utilizes a vacuum pump and high-frequency induction technology to safely and accurately melt chrome cobalt alloys. This advanced casting system ensures precision, consistency, and superior quality in the production of metal frameworks.

To support fixed prosthodontic procedures, the laboratory also houses a Ceramic Furnace for the firing, glazing, staining, and characterization of dental ceramics and porcelain-fused-to-metal restorations. The furnace provides controlled firing cycles and vacuum-assisted porcelain processing, enabling the fabrication of highly aesthetic restorations with excellent strength and color stability.

For pattern fabrication, the laboratory houses a range of Wax Pattern Tools, including wax heaters, electrical wax carvers, and duplicating units. These instruments enable the accurate construction and duplication of wax patterns, which are critical for the successful fabrication of cast restorations.

The laboratory is also equipped with Programmable Burn-out Furnaces used for the controlled elimination of wax from invested molds prior to casting. These furnaces provide precise temperature regulation, ensuring optimal mold preparation and enhancing casting accuracy.

A key feature of the laboratory is the Dental Surveyor, an essential instrument used to analyze and parallelize the contours of teeth and supporting structures. The surveyor aids in the design and fabrication of removable partial dentures by ensuring proper path of insertion, retention, and stability of the metal framework.

The Chrome Cobalt Laboratory plays a pivotal role in supporting clinical service, teaching, and research activities within the institution. Through its advanced infrastructure and specialized equipment, the laboratory ensures the production of high-quality prosthetic restorations while providing students with comprehensive training in contemporary dental laboratory techniques.
