About
Many of the technological developments that have propelled humanity forward can be credited to a thorough understanding of physics.
From quantum computers to renewable energy technologies, physics forms the strong foundation on which we not only understand the world of today, but plot the future of tomorrow.
The Department of Physics was established under RUAS’s Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences in the year 2014.
The Department offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs as well as Ph.D. programs. Applied Solid State Physics and Nuclear Physics and Technology, are the specializations offered as part of the M. Sc. Physics programs.

Our faculties are involved in research related to various advanced fields such as nanoscience and technology, battery applications, quantum information technology, computational physics etc. In addition to programs offered by FMPS, the Department also supports programs offered by other faculties.
Our highly-qualified faculty members are committed to molding the curiosity-driven minds of students to help them become the future global leaders of science and technology.
Our Vision
- FMPS aspires to be a premier institute with focus on to ignite and nurture enthusiasm, interests and passion in young minds for pure and applied sciences

Highlights
- Implemented the National Education Policy (NEP) from the year 2022 for our UG programme (B.Sc. Hons.), enabling us to provide our students with a holistic and multidisciplinary education, emphasizing critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.
- Our students are continuously clearing the national level examinations such as JAM, JEST, etc with good All India Ranking (AIR) and are pursuing higher education in reputed universities, and research institutes within the country and abroad.
- Our department is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories for UG and PG students
- Apart form these our department has the following other things to follow
- Proctoral System

Under the Proctoral System, every student is assigned a faculty member as a Proctor or a mentor.
These mentors offer guidance, support and encouragement to students, helping them as they progress along their academic journey. From the choice of electives to their academic performance, from attendance to meeting their credit requirements, students can approach these mentors with any and every query.
Proctors also interact with parents/ guardians and keep them updated on the progress of students.
To ensure that they reap the benefits of the Proctoral System, students are advised to be in regular contact with their Proctors.
Innovation Centre
At the Innovation Centre, students team up with faculty members to bring their innovative ideas to life. Ideas are assessed based on their relevance to?—?and impact on?—?society. These are then translated into working projects that are entered in national and international competitions, and for registration as patents.
Industry Visit
As part of the curriculum, students visit relevant institutions and industries to gain exposure to the actual workings of various department at organizations. Students will need to prepare a report of their observations and recommendations which will help them prepare them for joining industry when they graduate.
Partner Facilities
The Ramaiah Group was established in 1962 and the teaching hospital for medical students founded in 1985. This hospital caters to various income levels with a wide range of casualties. Students from FPS get exposure to live cases which helps train them for the future.
