About
The Department of Aerospace and Automotive Engineering was initially established in collaboration with Coventry University in 1999 as a part of the Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies.
In 2014, the Department evolved to become an integral component of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at RUAS.
The Department’s programs are designed to offer students an education that is comprehensive as well as current. Efforts are made to align the curriculum with industry trends and developments to ensure the relevance of learning. Faculty members come with years of industry experience and many conduct corporate training programs for engineers in companies like Tata Motors, Mahindra and Mahindra, Bosch, Continental, and Ashok Leyland. They also display strong capabilities in the field of hypersonic flow and its applications.

In the early semesters, students are familiarised with concepts like AI and ML. They are then given the option of specialising in domains like aerodynamics, control systems, autonomous vehicles, and future mobility.
Research is not only encouraged but is actively promoted. The Department has undertaken several sponsored research projects with organisations like DST, ARDB, GTRE, ADE, ISRO, Faurecia, Mann, and Hummel. Students thus have the opportunity to participate in numerous, cutting-edge research projects and gain a deeper understanding of their fields.

Over the years, the Department has forged notable partnerships with academic institutions and research organizations including Texas AMU, University of Illinois (Chicago and Urbana Champaign). These open the door to opportunities for collaboration, international education, internships, and research projects that—in addition to being a rewarding learning experience—offer students a competitive edge over their peers.

As Bengaluru is the hub for the aerospace industry as well as the automotive industry, students have ample employment opportunities in the city. The Department works closely with the University’s Placement Cell to provide students with employment opportunities in reputed and well-established companies and industries. In fact, 70–80% of our M. Tech students are placed through campus and off-campus activities.
