The Department of Biotechnology offers undergraduate and post graduate programs in Biotechnology.
The Undergraduate program has adopted the NEP program structure that places strong emphasis on developing skills and technological strengths from Year 1 and builds strong research and analytical skills by Year 4. The Department offers 2 Post graduate Programs namely “Biotechnology” and “Molecular and Cellular Biology”
The academic programmes of the Department are comprehensive and aims to equip the learners with competencies needed to shine and grow effectively in higher studies and in the corporate world. The Department has an impressive faculty-to-learner ratio with more than 90 % of faculty members holding doctoral degree and executing extramural funded research projects. Over 90% of the faculty are supported in research by Seed grants provided by the University. The Department has 3 teaching labs which are equipped with facilities that impart excellent hands-on training and build strong foundation in the areas of Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Animal Biotechnology and Chemistry. The Department is a part of an interdisciplinary faculty that includes the Department of Food Technology and Allied Health Sciences. Further, other departments in the University such as the Medical School and School of Pharmacy offer unlimited opportunities for interactions and collaborations, emphasizing the importance of inter-disciplinary education and research. An essential feature in the academic activity of the Department is its strong link with many premier institutions across India.
Significant priorities of the Department include developing entrepreneurship skills and training students to become future scientists keeping social context and human values as priorities. Our efforts are strengthened by strong collaborations with premier universities and companies. Our location offers the advantage of rich interactions with visiting scientists and eminent speakers. Healthy interactions with academia, industry experts and clinicians are arranged frequently, to encourage young minds to think constructively.
Our strong intellectual strengths, excellent infrastructure for academics & research coupled with the collaborative ecosystem offer a superb environment for inspiring young minds. This in turn is propelling the School’s research output and the successful progression of its graduates in academia, research and the corporate world.
