FDP on 'Empowering of FHMCT staff members: To be effective Dissertation Supervisors'
Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on 'Empowering of FHMCT staff members: To be effective Dissertation Supervisors' organised at FHMCT seminar room. This FDP is organised in three phases on 1st July, 8th July and 15th July,19 respectively.The three phases are designed with the objective of ‘'Empowering of FHMCT staff members: To be effective Dissertation Supervisors '. The first phase was conducted successfully with a welcome address by Dean, interactive sessions by resource persons and participants introduction and their expectations were noted. A pre-survey of FDP was also conducted to analyse participants’ awareness and motivation towards the research activity. The second and third phase of FDP comprised of Quantitative and Qualitative techniques, study tools, Statistics techniques, SPSS operation, report writing, manuscript writing, critical analysis, etc.
Resource Persons and their insights: Dr. Pushpanjali (Academic Registrar, RUAS): Delivered a session on Research Methodologies- Quantitative and Qualitative, Descriptive, Survey, Experimentation, etc. The self- directed learning made the participants understand the various methodologies used in the cases easily. Session and hands on activity on how to conduct Qualitative survey and its analysis, Critical analysis of papers and manuscript preparation. Dr.Sweety Jamgade (Asst. Prof-FHMCT): Delivered a session on Research and types of research relevant to Hospitality industry, Literature - types, sources and its importance, search engines, overview of citations and referencing, Identification of research gap, topic, problem statement, Identification of variables and their types. Delivered a session on Report Writing- Scheme, Chapters, Referencing Harvard Style, APA Dr. Mamatha (Asst Prof-FMC): Added her insights on research types, action research, approaches, Literature identification, gaps, variables and methodologies. Delivered a session on development of study tools including data collection methods (questionnaire and checklists), its reliability and validity parameters. Dr. Chandra (Asst Prof-FMC): Delivered a session on Sampling techniques, its estimation, Statistical Analysis- Descriptive and Inferential Statistics. Hypothesis formulation and relation to variables. Mr. Ravi C (Chief Librarian- FHMCT): Gave an orientation to library resources and its usage with list of various books, journals and magazine Mr. Nishanth B (Founder Rectrix Technologies): Gave an orientation and hand on experience on Data Analysis- data entry, tables and charts through SPSS operations, formulation and testing of hypothesis using various statistical analysis, tests, etc. All the above topics were fruitful for the participants to clear their understanding and learn research applications. These phases were well conducted, meeting most of the expectations of the participants hence created an interest among them. The FDP was concluded by participants sharing views, vote of thanks by Dean and a group photo attached herewith.
Induction Programme for New Recruits at MSRUAS
One day induction programme was conducted on 3rd August 2017 for all new recruits of the University. The programme was conducted at Peenya campus from 10:30 am till 5:30 pm and was divided into five sessions. The session speakers were Prof. S. R. Shankapal, Vice chancellor, RUAS, Dr. Pushpanjali K., Academic Registrar, RUAS and Mr. Arup Bhattacharya, Chief HR, RUAS. The induction programme was aimed at achieving the following objectives: 1. To give an overview of the University, it's structure and its activities. 2. To familiarize on the academic processes and pedagogy of the University. 3. To familiarize on the evaluation and assessment methods in the University. 4. To familiarize on the various HR policies of the University. The University extends a warm welcome to all the new recruits.
FDP on ‘How to Write Good Manuscripts and Publish in High Impact Factor Journals’
The Research Division had organised the FDP on ‘How to Write Good Manuscripts and Publish in High Impact Factor Journals’ for all the Faculty members of Peenya Campus. Prof. B.N. Raghunandan, IISc and Prof. Peter White, Coventry University, U.K. delivered the training in two separate sessions. Prof. Raghunandan highlighted the important issues of Publishing along with explaining the criticality of Impact Factor of the Journals. Prof. Peter White demonstrated the procedure to identify the best journals in a particular field with the available SCOPUS powered SCImago website and shared some good manuscripts.
"Interaction with Multi-Disciplinary Teams to Arrive at Contemporary Research Topics in Pharmaceutical Sciences at MSRUAS" by Dr. V. Prakash, Distinguished Scientist of CSIR-INDIA, Mysore
Dr. V. Prakash, Distinguished Scientist of CSIR-INDIA, Mysore visited M.S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (MSRUAS). The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. S.R. Shankapal, had organised an interactive session with Dr. V. Prakash by bringing together Professors from MSRUAS and Doctors from M.S. Ramaiah Medical College (MSRMC) along with M.S. Ramaiah Indic Centre for Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine (MSR-ICAIM) to explore the possible research collaborations. In particular, renowned doctors from MSR group like Prof. Shivamurthy, Dr. Sriranjini and Faculty members from Pharmacy, Dental, and Hospitality Management of MSRUAS participated in the interactive session. The participants gave a presentation on challenges and grey areas in their respective domain. Dr. V. Prakash gave a useful research directions and suggestions for individual researchers to continue their work from application and societal perspective. In the post-lunch session, Dr. V. Prakash delivered a guest lecture on patenting, publications and ethical practices in research. The guest lecture was attended by Ph.D. and post-graduate students of MSRUAS as well.

Prof. Owen Carmichael, Director – Biomedical Imaging Center, Pennington Biomedical Research Center, Baton Rouge, LA visited M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (MSRUAS). The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. S.R. Shankapal, had organised an interactive session with Prof. Owen Carmichael by bringing together Professors from MSRUAS and Doctors from M. S. Ramaiah Memorial Hospital (MSRMH) to explore the possible research collaborations. In particular, renowned doctors from MSR group like Dr. R. Srinivasa, Dr. A. S. Hegde, Dr. Anirudh, Dr. Vinay Prabhu, Dr. Nanda Kumar and others actively participated for the interaction session. The participants gave a presentation on challenges and grey areas in their respective domain and attended the workshop delivered by Prof. Owen Carmichael on the research directions of Biomedical Sciences. The Professor also visited Radiology, Neuro-Sciences Laboratories at the MSRMH and Engineering Sciences Laboratories at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, MSRUAS Peenya Campus.

The Research Division had organised a FDP on ‘How to Write Good Research Manuscripts and Publish in Indexed Journals’. Dr. M. S. Gautham and Dr. B. S. Pradeep from Department of Epidemiology, Centre for Public Health, NIMHANS (Institute of National Importance) delivered the guest lecture. The FDP was attended by the faculty members of the University - Gnagangothri Campus.
Faculty Development Programme on IPR Awareness in Academia
A one day awareness programme on “Identifying and Protecting IPR in Academia” was conducted at Peenya and Gnanagangothri Campus separately for the Faculty members of our University. The awareness programme included different IPR protections, patenting in India, Global patenting rights in research community, patentability criteria and search. In addition, hands-on session was planned for the members of Faculty to exercise on patentability subject matter. Faculty members from M.S. Ramaiah Medical College, International Medical School and M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Physiotherapy had also participated in the awareness programme.

A one day Faculty Development Workshop on Teaching & Learning Methods was conducted by External Examiner Prof. Eugene Lai, Nottingham Trent University, UK. Staff members from Faculty of Dental Sciences, Pharmacy, Hospitality Management & Catering Technology attended the workshop. This workshop was conducted to bring in uniformity in assessment procedures across the University and also a brief about the assessment procedures being followed at various foreign universities was showcased by the External Examiner.

Research Workshop for Ph.D. Supervisors and Scholars
Research Division organized a Workshop for Ph.D. scholars (2014-Batch) at MSRUAS Peenya Campus. Prof. Peter White, Prof. Gurmail Singh and Prof. Eugene Lai from U.K. briefed the scholars on the key considerations and challenges to formulate the Research Problem. Specifically, detailed approach to solve the Research Problem from application perspective was highlighted. In addition, identification of the Research project along with questions to be considered was addressed. The workshop was well-received by the Ph.D. scholars. Their enthusiasm and keen interest in Research were evident through the follow-up interactions with the Professors after the sessions.
Training for Board of Studies Members
A training session on some of the procedures and formats to be followed by Board of Studies and Board of Examiner members was held on 18th October 2014, Saturday at Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Peenya Campus. Prof. S R Shankapal, Vice Chancellor of the University gave a detailed presentation about the University and the procedures and formats to be followed. All Internal Members from MSRUAS and External Members (from various Colleges and Universities) along with Academic Registrar of MSRUAS attended the training session.

A Training Session on setting Assignment and Question Paper (both UG and PG) by Vice Chancellor Prof. S. R. Shankapal was organised to ensure that all the teaching faculty members of MSRUAS were aware of the processes of setting the right standard of Assignment and Question Paper for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate students at Peenya Campus on 11th July 2014.
