Dr. M. R. Jayaram is the Chancellor of the University and Chairman of Gokula Education Foundation (GEF). Dr. Jayaram, a commerce graduate is the eldest son of Shri. Dr. M.S. Ramaiah.

GEF was established in 1962 with a mission Education and Health for the better of mankind”. GEF over the years has established 21 Institutions on 85-acre Gnanagangothri Campus. The institutions include engineering, medicine, nursing, dental, law, and management and so on. You find almost all disciplines on a single Campus. Today more than 14,000 students study on this Campus.

GEF is a pioneer in establishment of privately financed educational institutions and they are largely responsible for Bangalore becoming an educational hub and which has led to highly developed Bangalore of today. As the eldest son, he joined his hands with his father and is largely responsible for GEF’s achievements. After the demise of his father, he created a superspeciality hospital in memory of his father, which has become a pride of Bangalore today. The MSR School of Advanced Studies is also his creation.

In the last few years, he has modernised 30 year old 800 bedded hospital, rebuilt dental hospital and Dental college, established an International Medical School for Malaysian students, rural hospitals, in 2010 launched GEF-Coventry University School for Physiotherapy. A new campus with an area of approximately 9.0 acres has been created for M.S. Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies, created Advanced Learning Centre- a one of its kind advance skill training centre for practicing doctors and health professionals in the country, an institute for Neuro Sciences and India’s largest Rehabilitation Centre.

He is not only an educationist, but also a businessman and industrialist of repute. He is also the Chairman of Valdel Corporation”. Valdel is into engineering construction, engineering design, retail, BPO and host of other businesses. Earlier they were also in the business of steel making, cement manufacturing, agribusiness and IT.

He is also into community development and philanthropy. He is the Dharmadhikari (head) of Kaiwara Kshetra (a centre for religious activities located around 60 km away from Bangalore). This Kshetra is into rejuvenation of old temples in and around Kaiwara, providing health and education to the villagers around Kaiwara, daily feeding to the poor and needy, conducts annual mass marriages and many such socially relevant activities.

He has created a trust that awards scholarship annually to the financially backward meritorious candidates for pursuing higher education.

He has created an Indology Centre, which is involved in the study of ancient Indian history and scriptures. He edits a magazine Mallara”, which the Indology Centre publishes on monthly basis. Earlier, he was publishing and editing a daily called Tainadu.

He was into politics for a short stint and was elected member of the legislative assembly of Karnataka State.

Dr. M. R. Jayaram was awarded honorary doctorates from Coventry University, UK during November 2006 and University of Illinois, Chicago, USA on 6th May 2022 for his contribution to promoting higher education and health care services.
