Dr. Tarun Das

As a series of Prestigious Lecture, Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences invited Padma Bhushan Dr. Tarun Das, Former Director General of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to deliver a Prestigious Lecture on Friday, 27th April 2018.

Dr. Tarun Das is an Indian industrialist, corporate executive, writer and a former Chief Mentor of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). He served CII from 1967 to 1974 as its Director General and from 1974 to 2004 as its Chief Executive. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honor, the Padma Bhushan, in 2006, for his contributions to Indian trade and industry.

Dr Tarun Das spoke uninhibited on the topic “India: How the nextGen can lead differently”.  The Padma Bhushan awardee started with his brief background and stressed on the fact that “You will know a person very well only if you know his roots”.

Dr. Tarun Das was highly impressed by the research activities undertaken by Ramaiah University and congratulated the Chairman and Vice Chancellor for the same. Dr Das connected wonderfully with the students and through them hailed today’s youth by a popular quote and a valid question: “Future belong to those who believe in their dreams” and “Are men ready to introspect and change”.  He encouraged and motivated the students to imbibe the feeling of entrepreneurship by advising them not to be “job seekers” but to be “job creators”.

He ended his talk by requesting the students to come out and vote on the Election Day in Karnataka (May 12th, 2018) by substantiating his argument that students play a crucial role in nation-building by choosing right people to rule their nation. He concluded his speech, with a firm belief in the Youth as a role model who is passionate towards the work they undertake. Last few thoughtful words stated by Dr. Tarun Das will linger on in our minds for long… “When God measures a man he puts the measuring tape around the heart and not the head of the man”. Dr Tarun Das has certainly left an indelible impression on the faculties and students of RUAS alike.
